Back To The Future Part VI - Screenplay by Mike Nichols

Monday, October 28th 2115, 11.38am (is displayed).

Ext. Highway. Scott McFly arrives at the highway on a rocket-board, awaiting the DeLorean, which has Eric Wilson and Suzy Lee aboard. He sees it driving towards him.

SCOTT (to himself).

Thank heavens that’s over.

Scott gets off of the rocket-board as he waits for Suzy and Eric.

Suddenly another bolt of lightning comes crashing down and hits the metal baseball bat sticking out of the back of the DeLorean.

The DeLorean illuminates before disappearing from sight. Two streaks of fire shoot along the road towards Scott, where he is standing dumbfounded.

There is silence and Scott falls to his knees.

SCOTT

Noooooooo…

Soaking wet in the rain, Scott remains kneeled down as he tries to think of his next move.

He sees a pair of headlights appear from the sky, and slowly a hover-car lands next to him.

Scott squints to see who it is.

The car lands and a white, wild haired man with a Hawaiian shirt emerges from it.

SCOTT

Doc? Doc Brown?

The man comes over. Scott can see it is not Doc.

MAN

Are you Scott? Scott McFly?

SCOTT

Yeah. Who the hell are you?

The man holds his hand out.

MAN

Verne Brown. Pleased to meet you.

Scott shakes Verne’s hand and then throws his arms around him.

SCOTT

I can’t believe it. Is it really you? How did you find me?

VERNE

I came to collect you.

SCOTT

You’re too late. They’ve gone.

VERNE

Who?

SCOTT

Suzy and Eric. They’ve been struck by lightning. The DeLorean’s gone. I don’t know where, but they’ve gone.

VERNE

Calm down Scott; they’re safe. The destination time was the same as when Eric last came back here.

SCOTT

When Eric came back from 2045? That was yesterday.

VERNE

Yes, that’s right. They tracked me down yesterday and here I am now to pick you up. The DeLorean is being fixed up ready to send you back to 2015.

SCOTT

You mean it’s all over?

VERNE

You can go home. Suzy told me all about what you’ve all been through and I can safely say that everything you set out to achieve is now done. Come on I’ll take you home and dry you out. You’re soaked.

Verne gets back into the car and Scott stands shivering, trying to absorb what’s been going on. Scott notices a piece of paper sticking out of his back pocket when he puts his hand there.

SCOTT (to himself).

What’s this?

Scott opens the piece of paper and looks at it.

SCOTT (to himself).

A family tree?

Scott examines the piece of paper for a few moments. Verne leans out of the car.

VERNE

Hurry up, it’s throwing it down.

Scott turns away from Verne and keeps reading the family tree. His head swims when he reads it.

SCOTT (to himself).

I remember… I remember it all now… I die in 2045. Josh erased my memory with that device to make me forget, but I remember. I remember it all. I’ve got to go there and stop it from happening…

The camera moves away from Scott and the car into the sky.

Credits roll across a rainy sky with lightning striking.

Fades.

Monday, November 4th 2115, 2.12pm (is displayed).

Int. Verne’s workshop. Verne and Jules lead Scott, Suzy and Eric to the grand unveiling of the newly fixed up DeLorean, which is covered over with a large sheet, and the lights are dim. Verne slowly turns the lights up and “The Ride of the Valkyrie” starts playing.

JULES

For goodness sake Verne, you’re getting a bit carried away with this aren’t you?

VERNE

Don’t spoil the fun Jules; they’ve been waiting all week for this.

JULES (checking his watch).

I hope it’s not going to take too long. I’ve got to get back to the hospital. People to see.

VERNE

Behave Jules.

Verne coughs for silence. Jules folds his arms and shakes his head in disbelief.

VERNE (in a presenting voice).
Ladies and Gentlemen…

SUZY

Lady.

Verne frowns at Suzy in a “What do you mean?” sort of way.

SUZY

You said “ladies”, there’s only one of me.

VERNE

Oh, whatever… Lady and Gentlemen… I would like to present to you the brand spanking new DeLorean… Mister Fusion model.

Verne pulls the sheet off of the DeLorean with a swift flick. He holds his arms out to present it to the others.

VERNE

Here we are…

Scott and Suzy look unimpressed, as does Jules.

VERNE

What?

SCOTT

I thought it was going to look all new or something.

VERNE

It is new.

SUZY

We’ve been in it like this before.

VERNE

But it’s my latest invention. Mister Fusion.

SCOTT

Yeah, you use trash to create the 1.21 jigowatts of electricity needed to make the flux capacitor work. I thought your dad invented it.

VERNE (looking deflated).

Well Dad did come up with the concept for it. I assembled it and put it into reality.

ERIC

Come on you guys, he’s been working all week putting this baby back together; give him some credit.

SCOTT

Sorry Verne, you’ve done a great job.

SUZY

So in the perspective of the DeLorean, the first time we took it into 1925 hasn’t happened yet.

SCOTT

That’s pretty weird. We’ve just got to make sure Doc gets it back so he can leave it where we find it… if that makes any sense.

VERNE

Precisely. It all gets pretty confusing playing around with the fourth dimension.

ERIC

So is it all up and running now then?

VERNE

Yes, I did a test run on it early this morning at 4.15am with Darwin as the test pilot.

JULES

That poor dog of yours Verne; what if something had gone wrong.

VERNE

Do you think I would’ve let Darwin near the DeLorean if I thought it wasn’t up to the job? Anyway, Darwin traveled one minute into the future and here he is, safe and sound unaware that he’s actually living in a minute later than he should be.

Darwin the sheepdog trots over to Verne, who makes a fuss of him.

VERNE

Who’s a good boy Darwin?

JULES

So, I gather it’s time for you three to head on back to good old 2015 then?

SCOTT

Yes, it looks that way.

VERNE

Make sure you go straight back and give the DeLorean to Dad. We can’t afford any more disruptions in the space-time continuum. It gets very confusing living in another time zone and you notice the differences when something gets changed in history.

SUZY

Don’t worry Verne, I’ve had enough excitement to last me a lifetime. I’m even beginning to miss school.

ERIC

You’re taking it a bit far now Suzy. I’ve been glad of the extra break from school.

SUZY

It’s not so bad. Scott, don’t forget we’ve got that assignment to hand in.

SCOTT

Assignment?

SUZY

Yeah, the one about the history of Hill Valley.

SCOTT (chuckling).

I think we’ve done enough research for it.

ERIC

Come on let’s go.

Verne opens up the door to his workshop.

JULES

When you leave, head right and over past the hover-ball stadium. That way, when you hit 88 miles-per-hour you’ll arrive over the fields past the Lone Pine Mall. Make sure you land it as soon as possible so nobody sees you.

SCOTT

Okay.

VERNE

Right we need trash to put into the Mister Fusion.

Scott fetches some from the trash-can, and he and Verne fill the Mister Fusion up.

JULES

Take it easy now. Maybe we’ll see you again some day.

Scott and Suzy look at each other.

SCOTT

I guarantee it.

Scott opens up the door to the DeLorean and Scott, Suzy and Eric get in after shaking hands with Jules and Verne.

VERNE

Take it easy now. Stay out of trouble.

SCOTT

Don’t worry, see you later.

VERNE

Or earlier…

JULES

Bye now.

ERIC & SUZY

See you.

SCOTT

Thanks then.

Scott winks at Jules and Verne before closing the DeLorean door, starting up and driving through the door. Jules and Verne wave them off. The DeLorean lifts up flies into the distance and disappears after three sonic booms are heard.

(Monday, October 26th 2015 6.24am).

Ext. Suzy’s house. Scott drives to drop Suzy and Eric off. As they drive in close proximity, they see their earlier selves leaving in the previous version of the DeLorean. They see Marty Senior run after their earlier selves to stop them, but without luck.

SUZY

Look, there’s your dad.

Scott doesn’t say a word.

Scott stops the car and Suzy and Eric get out. Scott opens up his door and gets. Eric shuts the passenger door.

Marty turns and sees that they have arrived back. Doc also gets out of Marty’s car to see what’s going on.

SUZY

Doc’s here as well. You can give him the DeLorean and he can go home.

Scott pulls the piece of paper out of his pocket with his family tree on. Marty and Doc head closer.

SUZY

Your brother and sister will be at home; don’t you want to see them?

Scott looks at Suzy and doesn’t say a word. He looks back at the family tree and sees the date he dies: 31st October 2045. Scott looks at Suzy again. Scott opens the trash can which is by the roadside. He quickly throws some stuff in the Mister Fusion.

SCOTT

Sorry Suzy, there’s something I’ve got to do.

SUZY

What are you on about Scott?

SCOTT

I can’t tell you.

Scott jumps into the DeLorean and pulls the door down.

SUZY

Scott, no… You can’t.

Marty Senior arrives at the scene. Scott has started the engine up and lifts off of the ground.

MARTY SENIOR

Scott! What the hell are you up to?

Doc arrives behind Marty. He is bewildered by the flying DeLorean.

DOC

Great Scott! What’s happened to the DeLorean? It’s flying.

MARTY SENIOR (to Suzy).

Where’s he going?

SUZY (sounding panicky).

I don’t know. He just said he had to do something.

DOC

That’s amazing! It flies!

Marty Senior, Doc, Suzy and Eric stand helpless at the roadside as Scott flies away.

Int. DeLorean. Whilst flying through the air, Scott taps in October 31st 2045 7am.

SCOTT

Don’t worry me; I’m coming to save you…

Scott hits the accelerator and flies across a field. The speed hits 88 miles-per-hour and after three sonic booms and a flash, the field transforms into a housing estate.

(Tuesday, October 31st 2045 7am).

Ext. Housing estate. Scott flies over the estate and lands on the road. He parks up in a relatively quite looking area and parks up.

The buildings are noticeably from the future in perspective of 2015, but yet different from 2115. Small flying robots are collecting trash from outside the houses.

Scott gets out and looks around. Nobody is about apart from a few sleek sporty looking cars.

SCOTT (to himself).

Good, nobody saw me. Now where the hell am I? I’d better head for the square. I wonder what it looks like now.

Ext. Courthouse Square. Scott has made it into the center of town. He looks up at the clock tower and sees it reads 10:04. Below the clock-tower, the square looks not too different from 2015, just a bit older. The pond outside the mall has plant-life around it which looks a bit over-grown.

People are going to and fro, probably on their way to work.

Silver clothing is the fashion. Everybody seems to be wearing silver suits. Scott smirks to himself.

SCOTT (to himself).

Foil suits! Far out!

Scott sees a post with a holographic ball on top of it. The ball is a novelty clock, which reads 7.45am. He adjusts his watch to match it.

He looks around to see the café. This time it’s called “Veg-Out Café”, a vegetarian themed café. Scott opts to go inside.

Int. Veg-Out Café. Scott looks around the place and sees the furniture is in the style of plastic vegetables. He sees that holographic-computer screens at the counter serving patrons.

SCOTT (to himself).

Okay, I need a drink to work out what I’m gonna do.

Scott looks to see a girl paying using her thumb.

SCOTT (to himself).

Okay, I’m alive today, so it should be okay. I hope this place isn’t being run by Robo-cops.

Scott steps up to the holographic screen, which flashes up a small carrot character with a huge smiley face. He sits on the broccoli shaped stool in front of it.

CARROT

Please place you thumb on the plate please.

Scott sees a small thumb plate on the counter and presses his thumb onto it.

CARROT

Thank you Mister McFly, what can get you today please?

SCOTT

A Pepsi please.

CARROT

What type of…

SCOTT (interrupting).

A large normal flavored Pepsi Perfect please, no ice and no other gimmicks with it thank you.

The carrot pauses and grins at Scott for a moment taking this all in.

CARROT

Here you go Mister McFly, thank you very much.

A cool refreshing glass of Pepsi Perfect comes out of the counter. Scott takes it in his hand, and swivels round to look around the café.

SCOTT (to himself).

Okay, normally, I would just come to the café and something will happen. Let’s see if fate is on my side today.

Scott looks around at all the locals eating breakfast, chatting away waiting for something to happen. Eventually he gives in and swivels his chair around again and leans onto the counter.

A teenage boy walks in and sits next to Scott. Scott daydreams and sips his Pepsi through a straw unaware of who is next to him. The holographic screen in front of the teenager has a carrot character on it the same as the one on Scott’s.

CARROT

Please place you thumb on the plate please.

The teenager obliges.

CARROT

Thank you Mister McFly, what can get you today please?

TEENAGER

Just a medium strawberry shake please.

CARROT

Here you go Mister McFly, thank you very much.

A milkshake appears in front of the teenager. He takes it and begins to sip it through a straw whilst leaning on the counter. His stance is the same as Scott’s who is still next to him unaware to what’s going on around him.

Next two teenage boys enter the café. One is Griff Tannen’s look-alike son, Griff Junior (15). The other is Needles’s grandson Wayne (15).

WAYNE

Hey, Griff, look! It’s Josh McFly.

GRIFF JUNIOR

Just the person I’m looking for Wayne.

Griff calls out to the teenager who turns out to be Scott’s future son Josh McFly (18).

GRIFF JUNIOR

Hey McFly!

Josh and Scott both turn around simultaneously.

GRIFF JUNIOR

What do you think you’re doing?

SCOTT (whispering disbelievingly)

GRIFF?

Josh sits quietly. Griff walks as if he’s going to grab Scott, but he passes him and grabs Josh. Scott turns and sees Josh sitting next to him.

GRIFF JUNIOR

Hey I’m talking to you McFly, you no good zoot.

JOSH (nervously).

Oh hey, Griff, hey Wayne, guys, how are you doing?

GRIFF JUNIOR

Yeah, you got my homework finished, McFly?

JOSH

Uh, well, actually, I figured since it wasn’t due ‘til Friday…

GRIFF JUNIOR

Hello, hello, anybody home?

Griff taps Josh on the head.

GRIFF JUNIOR

Think McFly, think. I gotta have time to re-scan it. Do you realize what would happen if I zip in my homework with your ident? I’d get kicked out of school. You wouldn’t want that to happen would you, would you?

JOSH

Now, of course not, Griff, now, I wouldn’t want that to happen.

GRIFF JUNIOR

Uh, no, no, no, no.

Wayne notices Scott staring and nudges Griff Junior.

GRIFF JUNIOR

What are you looking at, butt-head?

SCOTT

Err… err… nothing.

WAYNE

Hey, Griff, check out this dude’s clobber. Retro or what? The dork thinks he’s living in the 2010’s!

Griff and Wayne laugh at Scott, and then turn back to Josh.

GRIFF JUNIOR

Yeah, well, how about my homework, McFly?

JOSH

Uh, well, okay Griff, uh, I’ll finish that on up tonight and zap it on over first thing tomorrow morning.

GRIFF JUNIOR

Hey not too early, I sleep in Wednesdays; free period. Hey McFly, you shoe’s unclasped.

Josh looks down. Griff Junior clips Josh around the ear.

GRIFF JUNIOR

Don’t be so gullible McFly.

JOSH

Okay.

GRIFF JUNIOR

Oh, and another thing McFly; don’t let me catch you eyeing up my sister again. I’ve seen the way you keep looking at her. She’s out of bounds for you.

JOSH

Okay Griff, whatever you say. Bye-bye.

Griff Junior and Wayne leave laughing to themselves. Scott looks over nervously at Josh as he resumes drinking his milkshake. Josh notices.

JOSH

What?

SCOTT

You’re… you’re Josh! Josh McFly!

JOSH

Yeah, who are you?

Josh looks at Scott who doesn’t say anything.

JOSH

You look familiar. Do I know you?

SCOTT

No, I’m new around here.

JOSH

How did you know my name?

SCOTT

Those kids said.

Josh gives Scott a confused look.

SCOTT

You know you shouldn’t let those kids push you around. They’ll never leave you alone.

JOSH

But they’re bigger than me. They’ll beat me up if I don’t do as they say.

SCOTT

I bet they’re not as tough as they make out.

JOSH

What did you say your name was?

Scott looks around to get some inspiration for a new alias. He sees a couple of kids with a jug of orange juice. Printed on the jug are the letters “O.J.”

SCOTT

Erm… My friends call me… O.J.

JOSH

Pleased to meet you O.J.

SCOTT

Likewise.

JOSH

You sure look familiar…

Scott sees Josh with a small plastic device and points towards it.

SCOTT

What’s that you’ve got?

JOSH

Just some e-flyer some old-timer gave me outside.

SCOTT (intrigued).

How does it work?

JOSH (chuckling).

You must be from out of town. You’ve never seen an e-flyer before?

Scott shakes his head.

JOSH

You just stick it in your com-piece.

Josh offers it towards Scott but sees he doesn’t have a com-piece.

JOSH

Oh, you don’t have one. This is what you do.

Josh clicks the plastic device into a small wristband he’s wearing. Josh presses a plate and a holographic image of the clock tower appears above his wrist. It slowly changes into other images of the Hill Valley Telegraph form 1955 and back again. Josh twiddles something else and an audio commentary begins.

COMMENTARY

Save the clock tower! Mayor E Wilson is sponsoring an initiative to replace that clock. Ninety years ago, on Saturday, November 12th 1955, lightning struck the Hill Valley clock tower and the clock hasn't run since. We at the Hill Valley Preservation Society think it should be preserved exactly the way it is as part of our history and heritage. Log on to the Hill Valley cyber-net today to see what you can do and show your support.

SCOTT

That’s cool.

JOSH

My Grandpa used to tell me stories of that when I was younger. He reckoned he was there when the clock was struck by lightning. He said the storm was unimaginable.

SCOTT

Back in 1955?

JOSH

I know. He wouldn’t be old enough. He has a vivid imagination, bless him. He said a friend of his invented a time machine and he went back in time to that date. Imagine that?

SCOTT (laughing nervously).

Yeah, a time machine; how silly.

JOSH

I’ve always dreamed of time traveling since then. Imagine what you could do; where you could go if you had a time machine?

SCOTT

Where would you go?

JOSH

Right there, to the day of the lightning.

SCOTT

Why then?

JOSH

I love all the retro-culture of that time period. Everything was so much simpler back then. The fashion was cool, the cars were cool. Everything about back then was cool. Besides, I’d love to see the clock tower get struck by lightning. It’s one of the most exciting bits of local history.

SCOTT

Yeah, I bet it would’ve been cool then.

JOSH

What about you? Where would you go?

SCOTT

Err… Dunno? The past? The future? It’s all pretty interesting.

JOSH (finishing his milkshake).

Listen, I’ve gotta go. I’m meeting my dad. It was nice meeting you. See you later.

Josh leaps from his seat and leaves the café. Scott ponders for a second before realizing what Josh just said.

SCOTT

Your dad? You’re going to meet me? Wait!

Josh is already disappearing off down the road on an electric-bike. Scott rushes out of the café in a vain attempt to catch up with him.

Ext. Café. Scott runs out of the door after Josh.

SCOTT

Josh, wait!

Josh rings his bell and disappears around the corner. Scott runs after him.

Across the road, Griff Tannen Junior and Wayne Needles are messing around with an electronic device by a convertible sporty car. Wayne presses a few buttons and a whistling tone sounds. The car roars into life and the hood lowers.

WAYNE

Yes! I’ve overridden the code.

GRIFF JUNIOR

Let’s have some fun then.

Griff Junior goes to get in the driver’s seat but Wayne nudges him out of the way.

WAYNE

I’m driving first.

GRIFF JUNIOR

Come on, I wanna drive.

WAYNE

You can have a go after me. I cracked the code.

Griff Junior reluctantly lets Wayne have first go in the car and moves around to the passenger side. Wayne gets in the driver’s side and the two speed off down the road cheering.

Ext McFly household. Josh meets up with his father Scott McFly (45), who’s just coming out of the house.

JOSH

Dad! Dad, I’ve got them.

OLDER SCOTT

The Halloween costumes?

JOSH

Yeah. I went down to the 24-hour costume hire and got them. I figured they’d be none left if I went later on.

OLDER SCOTT

Let’s have a look then.

Meanwhile younger Scott catches up and sees Josh chatting to older Scott across the street.

YOUNGER SCOTT (to himself).

Woah! Look at me, I’m old!

Younger Scott waits over the road and observes his older self with Josh in the drive to their house. He looks at his watch and sees it’s 8.20am. Older Scott pulls a zombie mask out of the bag and tries it on. He starts chasing Josh around wearing it. Josh laughs as his father makes zombie sounds and tries to catch him. They run into the road.

Down the street the car Wayne Needles and Griff Tannen Junior approaches at speed. Younger Scott has a panic attack.

YOUNGER SCOTT

Nooo! This is it!

Older Scott and Josh move onto the sidewalk.

YOUNGER SCOTT

Yes! Stay there!

On the sidewalk, Older Scott pulls off the zombie mask and stands there looking confused.

JOSH

Dad? Are you alright?

OLDER SCOTT

I just had the strangest feeling of deja-vu.

A black cat runs into the road as the car approaches causing it to swerve onto the sidewalk. Older Scott turns to see the car heading straight for him at speed as Josh dives out of the way.

Across the road, younger Scott sees the events unfolding.

YOUNGER SCOTT

Nooo!!!

He goes to run and save his older self, but just as he does, a hand grabs him on the shoulder and stops him.

YOUNGER SCOTT

Huh?

He turns and sees it is Verne. In the background there is a screeching of brakes and a sickening thud.

JOSH (shouting).

Dad!

Younger Scott tries to rush to the scene but Verne drags him away. The stolen car speeds away. Josh runs to his father’s slumped body on the path.

VERNE

You shouldn’t be here Scott.

SCOTT (angrily).

Get off me! I could’ve stopped it from happening.

VERNE

The consequences could’ve been disastrous if you’d stepped in.

SCOTT

They couldn’t be any worse.

Scott with tears streaming from his face looks over to the scene.

Josh is in front of the body.

A passer-by is talking into a com-link device on his wrist.

A young girl who was passing embraces the grief stricken teenager.

VERNE

Come on Scott, let’s get out of here.

Verne pulls a reluctant Scott away from the scene.

Ext. Park bench.

Verne sits down with a shaking Scott.

VERNE

Come on Scott, you need to snap out of it. I need to get you home.

SCOTT

How did you find me here?

VERNE

I needed to make sure you got the DeLorean back to where it should be.

SCOTT

I don’t understand.

VERNE

When I fixed the DeLorean, I fitted it with a little invention of mine. It’s called a time tracker. It keeps relative time with a transmitter I have and tells me when in time the DeLorean is.

SCOTT

What did you go and do that for?

VERNE

The future version of this vehicle ends up being struck by lightning in 1955 with my father on board. It ends up in 1885, where he meets my mother and falls in love. If the DeLorean doesn’t get to this point in time, he won’t meet her, and Jules and I won’t be born. If I’m not born, I won’t be able to fix the DeLorean in 2115 and you’ll be stuck there. We could end up with a major paradox. I think it’s in my best interests to make sure the DeLorean stays on its historical course. When I saw the relative life-time of the DeLorean was is in 2045, I came to see what whoever it was is up to.

SCOTT (slightly confused).

I was going to take it back afterwards.

VERNE

You can’t go around time deciding who lives or dies either. It’s like playing God.

SCOTT

If my research into my father’s time travel story is right, shouldn’t your mother have fallen into the ravine to her death? You shouldn’t have been born anyway.

VERNE

That was totally different.

SCOTT

How?

VERNE

It’s not open for discussion. I’m taking you home right now.

SCOTT

No chance.

Scott runs away from Verne down the road back to the scene of the accident.

Ext. McFly household. Scott stops across the road from the house and sees that an ambulance has arrived. Older Scott’s body is covered up and is being carried into the ambulance. The street is filled with neighbors. Scott sees Josh with the girl who arrived on the scene. She is still comforting him. Scott makes his way over to them.

SCOTT

Hey, Josh. I’m sorry.

JOSH

What are you sorry for? You weren’t to blame.

SCOTT

Don’t worry; I’m going to make it all better for you.

JOSH

Better? You don’t understand. My father has been killed by a hit and run driver. We don’t know who it was. My mom or grandparents don’t even know yet. How can you possibly make it better?

SCOTT

Trust me on this one.

The ambulance pulls away.

JOSH

What are you going on about? You don’t even know me. Come on Ellie, I need to get out of here.

SCOTT

Ellie? Ellie Tannen?

ELLIE

Yeah, and who the hell are you?

SCOTT

It doesn’t matter. Just take care of him will ya?

JOSH

Just leave me alone. I’m not in the mood.

Josh and Ellie walk off down the road. Ellie has her arm around Josh. Scott looks on.

SCOTT (to himself).

They end up getting married in the future.

Scott sees Verne approaching and decides to head off again.

Ext. Park. Scott walks around not knowing what to do next. He sees Josh sitting with Ellie on a bench. He decides not to approach, but instead hides behind a tree. Josh is sobbing and Ellie is comforting him.

ELLIE

Josh, you really ought to be getting home. Your mom will need you when she gets home.

JOSH

I can’t face it. All I want to do is run away as far as possible. I’m gonna get on a train and go as far away as possible.

ELLIE

You know you can’t do that, you’re just in shock. Your mom has enough to worry about with out you doing a disappearing act.

Across the park three sonic booms sound and a DeLorean appears. Josh and Ellie jump.

JOSH

What the hell is that?

ELLIE

It just came out of nowhere.

JOSH

I’m going to see what it is.

ELLIE

It could be dangerous.

JOSH

So?

Josh heads down across the park near some trees, so he cannot be seen. Ellie shrugs her shoulders and heads after him. Scott tails them unseen.

The DeLorean stops in an overgrown area. It opens and out jumps a figure in a yellow radiation suit. The figure takes out a case and opens it. Inside are glass cylinders. The figure takes one out and inserts it into the back of the frozen DeLorean.

JOSH (whispering).

Is it an alien?

ELLIE (whispering).

I don’t know. Isn’t that an old fashioned car?

JOSH (whispering).

I think it’s called a DeLorean. My Grandfather told me about them.

The figure finishes what he is doing and proceeds to take the radiation suit off. It’s Eric Wilson.

SCOTT (whispering to himself).

Eric! I forgot he came here.

Eric finishes what he is doing and puts the case and the radiation suit in the trunk of the DeLorean. He closes the door and off he goes looking for adventure.

JOSH

This could be interesting. I’m going to take a closer look.

ELLIE

Be careful.

Josh opens up the cold door of the DeLorean and looks inside.

ELLIE

What is it?

JOSH

I think it’s a time machine.

ELLIE (excited).

You’re kidding aren’t you?

JOSH

No. I really think it is. It came out of thin air, and check these dials out.

Josh shows Ellie inside the DeLorean. Scott watches, not knowing what to do. Before he can decide, Josh and Ellie are inside the DeLorean and the doors close. Scott runs out to stop them.

SCOTT

No, no, don’t!

Josh doesn’t see Scott rush over, but instead manages to get the DeLorean started and begins to drive off. Scott tries to run after it, but he’s too slow.

SCOTT

Oh, no! This is heavy.

Across the park, three sonic booms are heard and the DeLorean vanishes.

SCOTT

Where the hell have they gone?

A moment later, another three sonic booms are heard, and the DeLorean reappears. Scott has to dive out of the way to avoid being knocked down. The car comes to a stop in the overgrown area where Eric stopped a few minutes earlier. The frozen door opens and Josh and Ellie re-emerge. Josh is wearing an old fashioned suit and Ellie has a ball gown on. Scott hides again to avoid being seen.

JOSH

Thanks for that, it was just what I needed.

ELLIE

You get home now and look after your mother.

JOSH

Yeah, it’s gonna be tough.

ELLIE

You’ll be fine. I know you will.

Ellie gives Josh a kiss.

ELLIE

Come on, let’s go.

Josh and Ellie head home across the park.

Scott comes out of hiding.

SCOTT (to himself).

Where the hell have they been? I would’ve thought they’d come back to earlier and saved me instead of partying somewhere. Wait a minute… back in time…?

Scott looks at the DeLorean.

SCOTT (to himself).

I’d better use the Mr. Fusion version. I don’t want to use up the cylinders yet.

Scott runs off to get the other version of the DeLorean.

Int. “Mister Fusion” DeLorean. Scott looks at the display.

SCOTT (to himself).

Right, it’s about 11.30am now. The accident happened around 8.20am. If I give myself about half an hour… That should do it.

Scott taps in October 31st 2045 7.50am.

SCOTT

Here we go…

Scott takes off at speed and disappears with three sonic-booms, leaving two fire trails behind.

(Tuesday, October 31st 2045 8.19am).

Ext. McFly household Scott hides behind his future self’s trash cans in the drive.

Josh arrives and meets up with his older Scott who’s just coming out of the house.

JOSH

Dad! Dad, I’ve got them.

OLDER SCOTT

The Halloween costumes?

JOSH

Yeah. I went down to the 24-hour costume hire and got them. I figured they’d be none left if I went later on.

OLDER SCOTT

Let’s have a look then.

Older Scott pulls a zombie mask out of the bag.

OLDER SCOTT

Cool; a zombie mask.

Older Scott tries it on.

OLDER SCOTT

Roar!!! I’m coming to get you.

Older Scott starts to chase Josh.

JOSH

Hey leave it out dad!

Older Scott makes moaning zombie sounds. Josh runs of giggling. They run into the road.

Younger Scott looks around the trash cans. He sees his earlier self watching from across the road and mouthing towards older Scott and Josh to get back on the sidewalk.

Older Scott and Josh move back onto the sidewalk.

YOUNGER SCOTT (to himself).

This is it.

Older Scott pulls off the zombie mask and stands there looking confused.

JOSH

Dad? Are you alright?

OLDER SCOTT

I just had the strangest feeling of deja-vu.

A black cat runs into the road as the car approaches causing it to swerve onto the sidewalk. Older Scott turns to see the stolen car with Griff Junior and Wayne in heading straight for him at speed. Josh dives out of the way.

Younger Scott rushes from the trash cans and lunges towards his older self.

Older Scott is pushed out of the way by younger Scott, who then sees the car heading straight for him.

Suddenly there is blackness.

Int. Bedroom. Younger Scott opens his eyes blearily and makes out a figure in a room.

YOUNGER SCOTT

Mom… Mom… Is that you?

ELLIE

There, there, now, just relax. You've been asleep for a couple of hours.

SCOTT

I had a horrible nightmare, dreamed I went back into the future, it was terrible.... I saved him... me… It came at me... Got to get back in time…

ELLIE

There, there now, take it easy, you've had an accident. You’re very lucky, you landed on the grass. You're safe and sound, now, back in good old 2045.

Scott sits up bolt right.

SCOTT

2045?

Scott squints and sees it is Ellie Tannen.

SCOTT

Ellie Tannen? What are you doing here?

Scott feels his head is sore and winces.

ELLIE

Careful now, you’ve bumped your head.

Ellie soothes Scott’s head with an ice pack.

SCOTT

Where am I?

ELLIE

You’re at the man’s house you saved. A Mister McFly.

SCOTT

Scott McFly?

ELLIE

That’s right; do you know him?

SCOTT

Sort of. What am I doing here?

ELLIE

I was walking past when I saw the accident. I wanted to call for an ambulance, but Mister McFly insisted you stayed here until you were better. I volunteered to look after you as you looked so helpless.

Ellie goes to put her arm around Scott. He moves away and winces as he moves, as he’s sore.

ELLIE

Oh you poor thing. Look at you.

Ellie goes to hug Scott, but he moves across the bed and gets out the other side.

ELLIE

Where are you going? You need to rest.

Scott sees he’s in his underwear, and notices his clothes on the side. Ellie blushes as Scott hurries to get dressed.

SCOTT

Where’s Scott? I mean Mister McFly?

ELLIE

He’s in the other room. He came over all faint and had to lie down. It must have been the shock of what happened.

SCOTT

Where’s the rest of the family? Josh? Suzy?

ELLIE

Josh took off after the accident. He hasn’t come back. His mother is at work. I don’t know when she will be home.

Scott thinks for a moment about what to do next. He feels his back pockets and takes the printed family tree out. He looks at it.

SCOTT

Oh no! What’s happened?

The family tree has altered. It ends at the bottom with Josh McFly. There is no evidence that he marries Ellie any more and there is no sign of any descendants.

ELLIE

What is it?

The family members listed on the family tree from George McFly downwards are also fading, including Scott!

SCOTT

What time is it?

ELLIE

It’s just after ten. Why?

SCOTT

I’ve got to go.

ELLIE

You can’t go. You had an accident.

Scott moves his arms and legs.

SCOTT

Look, no bones broken. I’ve got to be somewhere.

ELLIE

I’m coming with you. What if you faint or something?

Scott thinks for a moment.

SCOTT

Okay, I think you need to be there anyway.

ELLIE

I don’t understand. What about Mister McFly?

SCOTT

Leave him be. He’ll be okay.

Scott leaves the bedroom followed by Ellie. He looks into another bedroom and sees his older self ill in bed.

YOUNGER SCOTT (to himself).

You’re alive; that’s the main thing.

Ellie looks puzzled at Scott.

ELLIE

What is going on here? By the way, what’s your name?

SCOTT

Scott. Scott McFly.

ELLIE

Are you related?

SCOTT

You could say that. Come on.

Ext park. Scott and Ellie head across the park towards the spot the DeLorean appeared. Scott looks at his watch.

SCOTT

I hope we’re not too late.

ELLIE

For what?

In the other direction, Scott sees Eric heading away.

SCOTT

Damn, he’s already here. Come on.

Scott breaks into a jog followed by Ellie. They eventually see the DeLorean with Josh looking around it. Scott looks behind the trees and sees his earlier self watching Josh from a safe distance.

ELLIE

There’s Josh. What’s he doing?

SCOTT

We’ve got to be quiet. Come on.

Scott hides behind another tree with Ellie. Ellie sees the earlier version of Scott.

ELLIE

Is he your brother? He is the spitting image of you.

SCOTT

Shhhh…

ELLIE (whispering).

What’s going on?

SLIGHTLY OLDER SCOTT

This doesn’t look good.

They watch the events of before unfold. Josh, alone now climbs inside the DeLorean.

SLIGHTLY YOUNGER SCOTT

No, no, don’t!

Josh doesn’t see the slightly younger Scott rush over, but instead manages to get the DeLorean started and begins to drive off. The earlier version of Scott tries to run after it, but he’s too slow.

EARLIER VERSION OF SCOTT

Oh, no! This is heavy.

Across the park, three sonic booms are heard and the DeLorean vanishes.

EARLIER VERSION OF SCOTT

Where the hell have they gone?

Meanwhile Ellie starts panicking.

ELLIE

He disappeared! He’s been disintegrated!

OLDER VERSION OF SCOTT

Don’t worry he hasn’t been disintegrated. I can assure you he and the car are perfectly intact.

ELLIE

But where the hell are they then?

OLDER VERSION OF SCOTT (in a matter of fact sort of way).

The question should be when the hell are they?

ELLIE

I don’t understand. What’s going on?

Ellie takes Scott’s hand, as she’s scared.

OLDER VERSION OF SCOTT

Josh has just gone off in a time machine.

ELLIE

Don’t be stupid. How can he have gone off in a time machine?

OLDER VERSION OF SCOTT

Didn’t you just witness him vanish? How stupid can that seem?

ELLIE

Okay, then where has he gone?

OLDER VERSION OF SCOTT

I don’t know, but wait a second and he’ll be back.

They wait, as does the younger version of Scott across the park a short way. Nothing happens.

OLDER VERSION OF SCOTT (worrying).

I don’t understand. He should be back by now.

The younger version of Scott waits confused.

ELLIE

I’m going to get your brother.

Ellie runs off.

OLDER VERSION OF SCOTT

No! Wait, he’s not my broth…

Waving, Ellie attracts the attention of the younger version of Scott. The older version of Scott reluctantly follows cautiously.

ELLIE

Hey, where has Josh gone?

YOUNGER VERSION OF SCOTT

Who are you?

ELLIE

Ellie Tannen. Are you Scott’s brother?

YOUNGER VERSION OF SCOTT

You’re Ellie Tannen? Who are you with?

The younger version of Scott looks over to his older self and recognizes himself. He jumps back in shock.

YOUNGER VERSION OF SCOTT

What the hell is going on here?

OLDER VERSION OF SCOTT

Hey, hey, Scott old buddy. We’re in a little bit of bother?

YOUNGER VERSION OF SCOTT

What’s going on? Where’s Josh gone?

OLDER VERSION OF SCOTT

I don’t know. But it shouldn’t have happened this way.

ELLIE

What’s going on? Who are you both?

OLDER VERSION OF SCOTT

Ellie, meet me from earlier on today.

ELLIE

This is you?

OLDER VERSION OF SCOTT

Yeah, he’s me, I’m him and we are the same person.

ELLIE

That’s impossible.

OLDER VERSION OF SCOTT

Look he is me; he’s wearing the same clothes, the same shoes, the same watch… Look, he even has the same mark on his trousers.

Ellie looks between the two Scotts and faints on to the floor.

BOTH SCOTTS

Ellie!

They both rush to her aid.

YOUNGER VERSION OF SCOTT

Hey, what’s going on? Why are you… me… am I here?

OLDER VERSION OF SCOTT

Listen, you have to go back in time to this morning. 7.50am. Go and stop the older me… you… err… Scott getting mown down, and then come back here with Ellie at this exact time. If you don’t we could cause one of those paradoxes or something.

YOUNGER VERSION OF SCOTT

How, why?

OLDER VERSION OF SCOTT

Josh and Ellie originally went off together in the DeLorean and came back together. This time, only Josh went and he hasn’t come back. I’ve got to find him. Try and think about where he might have gone.

YOUNGER VERSION OF SCOTT

Okay. But what about Ellie.

OLDER VERSION OF SCOTT

I’ll look after her. You’d better get going. And don’t forget; save old Scott and try to work out where Josh would go. Oh, and another thing, after you save the older us, look at the family tree.

YOUNGER VERSION OF SCOTT (taking this in).

Right. Where do I live?

OLDER VERSION OF SCOTT

Give me your copy of the family tree.

The younger version of Scott hands the family tree over and the older version writes the address down with a pen from his pocket. He then hands it back.

OLDER VERSION OF SCOTT

Right, be there at 8.20am.

YOUNGER VERSION OF SCOTT

Cheers, see ya later.

OLDER VERSION OF SCOTT

Good luck.

YOUNGER VERSION OF SCOTT

And you.

Younger Scott heads off to travel back to earlier on. After he’s out of sight, there is a sort of tremor and a wave as something in history changes. Older Scott loses his balance and tumbles next to Ellie. He pulls out the family tree and looks at it again. The names on the family tree from George McFly onwards are getting fainter.

SCOTT (to himself).

Of course! 1955. He wanted to see what the 1950’s were like.

Scott starts tapping Ellie around the face to wake her up.

SCOTT

Ellie. Wake up. Come on, we need to go to 1955.

Ellie starts to wake up.

ELLIE

Where… Where am I?

SCOTT

Wake up; it’s me Scott.

Ellie sits up with a start.

ELLIE

There were two of you.

SCOTT

Don’t worry, he’s gone now, there’s only one of me. Come on we’ve got to go to 1955.

ELLIE

1955? Why? How?

SCOTT

In the time machine. I bet Josh is there. On the day the clock tower got struck by lightning.

Ellie looks at Scott confused. She thinks for a moment then plays with her com-piece on her wrist. The same e-flyer hologram projects above her wrist.

ELLIE

November 12th 1955?

SCOTT

That’s the date, come on, there’s no time to lose.

ELLIE

I hope you know what you’re doing.

Scott starts to head off. Ellie catches up and holds Scott’s hand.

ELLIE

Nothing bad is going to happen is it?

SCOTT

It will if we stay here.

ELLIE

Look after me Scott.

Scott gives Ellie a funny look.

SCOTT

Okay.

The two head off.

(Saturday, November 12th 1955, 7am)

Ext. Future site of Lyon Estates. The DeLorean appears with three sonic booms in the sky, and goes to land behind the Lyon Estate sign. There is another hidden DeLorean there.

Int. DeLorean. Scott and Ellie look out of the windows.

SCOTT

Damn, there’s already a DeLorean there. I wanted to hide the DeLorean, where my Dad first hid it. I forgot that he came back.

ELLIE

Are we in 1955?

SCOTT

Yeah, look around, the houses have gone.

ELLIE

Wow, that’s amazing. You’re so cool. Can we go and look around?

SCOTT

Yeah, after I’ve found somewhere to hide the DeLorean. I can’t leave it out in the open here.

Ext. DeLorean. Scott flies off to try and find somewhere to hide.

Ext. Courthouse Square. Scott walks along with Ellie.

SCOTT

We’ve got to find Josh and get you with him. What do you think of Josh anyway?

ELLIE (half listening, looking around).

Josh?

SCOTT

Yeah, what do you think of him?

ELLIE

He’s a bit geeky. He’s not as nice as you.

SCOTT

Me? You’ve gotta be kidding.

ELLIE

You’re wonderful. Most boys would take me out on a date to a café or something. You’re different; you took me to the nineteen-fifties! It’s so romantic.

SCOTT

Date? This isn’t a…

ELLIE (interrupting).

So what do you want to do here? I fancy dressing up in period clothing. The outfits here are so cool.

SCOTT

I haven’t got any money; we can’t buy anything.

ELLIE

Can’t we thumb for stuff?

SCOTT

That sort of technology hasn’t been invented yet. Even if it was, we wouldn’t be registered.

ELLIE

Don’t worry, I can sort that. Let’s go to that café.

Ellie points at Lou’s café.

Int. Lou’s café. Ellie and Scott walk in and sit down. Lou Carruthers is serving and Goldie Wilson is cleaning up. A couple of girls are having a drink.

LOU

What have we here?

Lou points at Scott and Ellie’s clothes.

LOU

What is it with kids lately? All wearing these weird clothes. I don’t know what the world is coming to.

ELLIE

There’s nothing wrong with these clothes. You want to try looking in the mirror yourself. You’re so… daggy.

LOU

Why you cheeky…

SCOTT

Sorry, she didn’t mean to be…

ELLIE

He started it.

SCOTT (firmly).

Back down Ellie, remember we’re not from here. Sorry sir, could we order some drinks.

LOU

Not if I’m going to be spoken to like that.

SCOTT

She didn’t mean it sir, did you Ellie.

Ellie says nothing. Scott elbows her in the side.

SCOTT

Did you Ellie?

ELLIE

No. Sorry.

LOU

Okay then.

Lou looks cautiously at Ellie.

LOU

What would you like?

SCOTT

A couple of Pepsis please.

LOU

Coming right up.

Lou goes off to prepare the drinks. Ellie looks at the cash register.

Across the café, Scott listens to the two girls talking.

BABS

Ooh Lorraine, I can’t wait for the dance. I’m so excited.

LORRAINE

I know Babs. Just think, tonight, I’ll be dancing with Calvin Klein; he’s so nice.

BABS

You lucky thing, I wish my date was as cute as him.

SCOTT (to himself).

Dance?

LORRAINE

The dress I’m going to get is so fabulous. Calvin isn’t going to be able to resist me in it.

BABS

Drink up, let’s go and get the dresses. Oh, it’s only hours to go until tonight. The Enchantment under the Sea; what a fabulous theme for a dance.

The two girls finish their drinks and head off.

SCOTT

The Enchantment under the Sea Dance? Of course. That’s on tonight; the same night as the lightning storm.

ELLIE

Dance? Are you taking me to a dance?

SCOTT

We can’t go to the dance. We’ve nothing to wear.

ELLIE

What do people wear at dances here?

SCOTT

Ball gowns and stuff.

ELLIE

If I get one, can we go?

SCOTT

I suppose…

ELLIE (interrupting).

That’s settled then.

SCOTT

But we still don’t have any money.

ELLIE

Leave that to me.

Ellie goes to the door, and looks outside, before turning back inside.

ELLIE

I can’t believe what’s going on out there! Ooh, it’s so terrible!

Lou and Goldie look at each other, before rushing out of the shop to see what’s going on. Ellie leans over the cash register, opens it and takes some money out.

SCOTT

What the hell are you doing?

ELLIE

We need some money.

Ellie looks at the money and stuffs it in her pocket. Scott looks at her with a dropped jaw.

ELLIE

There’s only twenty bucks or so in there. That’s not gonna go far.

Scott nervously looks round. Outside Lou and Goldie are looking confused.

SCOTT

Let’s go quick.

Scott and Ellie disappear out of the café, carefully avoiding Lou and Goldie.

ELLIE

Right, I’m off to get something to wear. I’ll meet you somewhere later.

SCOTT

Where?

ELLIE

Where’s this dance?

SCOTT

The High School.

ELLIE

The High School it is then. I’ll meet you there later on.

SCOTT

Wait a minute… You cant…

ELLIE

See you later.

Ellie heads off leaving Scott bewildered.

SCOTT (to himself).

I’ll have to track Josh down.

Ext. Street near Ruth’s Frock Shop. Scott walks along and has a fright. He sees Old Biff Tannen from 2015 hobbling along on his can taking in the sights of 1955. Biff spies Scott as he’s panning around the street. He keeps looking around and then realizes what he saw. He looks back, expecting to see Scott again, but there’s nobody there. Biff shakes his head and carries on.

Scott hides behind a tree as Biff passes by.

SCOTT (to himself).

That was close. I’m going to have to keep my eyes open today.

Old Biff stops when he sees his 1955 counterpart’s car. He looks around and then sees Young Biff crossing the road between some kids throwing a ball around. He’s with Terry the mechanic. Behind them is Marty from 1985 on his second trip to 1955.

Old Biff decides to hide behind the tree Scott’s behind. Scott sees him coming and circles around the tree away from him. Scott makes a short jog and manages to hide behind the next tree.

Young Biff and Terry reach Biff’s car.

YOUNG BIFF

Looking good Terry.

TERRY

Hey Biff, she’s all fixed up just like you wanted, but I couldn’t get her started! You got some kind of a kill switch on this thing?

Young Biff opens the car door and gets in.

YOUNG BIFF

Nah, you just gotta have the right touch. Nobody can start this car but me.

TERRY

The bill comes to $302 and 57 cents…

YOUNG BIFF

Three hundred bucks?

Young Biff gets out of the car.

YOUNG BIFF

Three hundred bucks for a couple of dents? No, hey, that’s bullshit Terry.

TERRY

No Biff, it was horseshit, the whole car was filled with it. I had to pay Old Man Jones eighty bucks to haul it away!

YOUNG BIFF

Old Man Jones? He probably resold it too! Now I ought to get something for that.

TERRY

You wanna get something for it? Well, go inside, you can call Old Man Jones and if you want to get a refund…

Scott dares a peep around the tree. He can see old Biff chuckling from the next tree. Sticking out of old Biff’s pocket is the Gray’s Sports Almanac from Back to the Future part 2. He sees Marty climbing into the car behind young Biff and Terry.

SCOTT (to himself).

This is heavy! I could go over there and get the sports almanac and help Dad out.

YOUNG BIFF (to Terry).

It’s three hundred bucks Terry!

TERRY

Look, I’m only charging you for…

YOUNG BIFF

If I catch the guy who caused this, I’ll break his neck!

Young biff and Terry enter the Western Auto Stores shop. Scott looks across at old Biff.

OLD BIFF (to himself).

The manure! I remember that!

Scott sneaks across behind old Biff. He reaches and tries to grab the almanac. Young Biff and Terry re-emerge from the shop. Terry is holding four cans. Scott doubles back and hides behind Biff’s car. He looks to see if old Biff can see him, but he’s okay.

SCOTT (to himself).

Dad will get the almanac anyway. I should leave it where it is.

YOUNG BIFF

Four cans for a $300 job?

TERRY

I can’t even have lunch in there, it makes me nauseous…

YOUNG BIFF

I should be getting a case or more out of you for a three hundred bucks job.

TERRY

It smells worse than the bathroom!

Young Biff takes the cans and throws them into the back of his car.

YOUNG BIFF (sarcastically and not really listening).

Yeah, yeah, yeah…

TERRY

The stench is never going to go away, Biff. Never going to go away.

Young biff opens the door.

YOUNG BIFF (sarcastically).

Yeah, thanks a lot.

TERRY

That’s the last time I ever do you a favor! Last time!

Terry moves off, as does young Biff who’s seen three girls emerging from Ruth’s Frock Shop. One of them is Ellie. Scott manages to get along the street and behind another car.

YOUNG BIFF

Well lookie what we have here. Pretty nice dress Lorraine.

Young Biff lifts up Lorraine’s skirt. Scott realizes who Lorraine is.

SCOTT (to himself).

Grandma?

YOUNG BIFF

Although, I think you’d look better wearing nothing at all.

LORRAINE

Biff, why don’t you take a long walk off a short pier?

YOUNG BIFF

Hey listen, Lorraine. There’s that dance at school tonight. Right now, my car’s all fixed. I’d figure that I’d cut you a break and give you the honor of going with the best-looking guy in school.

LORRAINE

Well, I’m busy tonight, Biff.

YOUNG BIFF

Doing what?

LORRAINE

Washing my hair.

YOUNG BIFF

That’s a funny as a screen door on a battleship.

LORRAINE

Look Biff, someone has already asked me to the dance.

YOUNG BIFF

Who, that bug George McFly?

LORRAINE

I’m going with Calvin Klein, ok?

YOUNG BIFF

Calvin Klein?

Young Biff grabs Lorraine.

LORRAINE

Get your cooties off of me!

YOUNG BIFF

When are you going to get it through that thick skull of yours Lorraine, you’re my girl!

LORRAINE

Biff Tannen, I wouldn’t be your girl even if… even if you had a million dollars!

Lorraine kicks Biff and hits him over the head with her box. She and Babs run off. Ellie pauses for a moment.

ELLIE

You’re Biff Tannen?

YOUNG BIFF

Yeah, and who the hell are you? Nice outfit by the way. Hey Lorraine, yes you will be my wife! It’s you and me Lorraine! It’s you and me, Lorraine!

Ellie runs to catch up her new friends.

Biff steps in the road and a car narrowly misses him.

CAR DRIVER

Watch your back!

YOUNG BIFF

It’s meant to be! Someday you’ll marry me! Someday you’ll be my wife!

SCOTT (to himself).

No chance.

Scott makes a run for it after Ellie. Old Biff, who’s now in young Biff’s car, spies him and double takes as he recognizes him from 2015.

OLD BIFF

What the…?

Old Biff tries to get up and see Scott better, but he’s gone. Young Biff turns and sees his older self in the car.

YOUNG BIFF

Get the hell outa my car, old man!

Ext. Street. Scott rushes to catch up with Ellie who’s back with Lorraine and Babs. Across the street he spies a teenage boy looking over at Lorraine. There is another boy with him. It is Josh. Scott stops in his tracks and moves over to a shop doorway where he can keep an eye on them.

JOSH

Hey George, do you know her?

GEORGE

It’s some girl I like. A friend of mine wants me to go with her at the dance, but I’m a little nervous.

JOSH

What do you mean; he wants you to go with her?

GEORGE

He’s got some bee in his bonnet about it; he’s becoming quite obsessed with getting us together. He looks a lot like you as well.

JOSH

Do what you want to do. It’s not up to him.

The two Biffs drive past in the car. George shudders when he sees young Biff.

GEORGE

I suppose. She is quite nice, but I’d rather not have to go through all the stress of convincing her to come to the dance with me. That guy in the car that just went passed will be there as well. He keeps hassling me. Besides, Science Fiction Theater is on television tonight.

JOSH

Cool, you like Sci-Fi then?

GEORGE

Well, I…

JOSH

I love Star Wars! It’s the best. Do you like Star Wars? Those old movies are classics.

GEORGE

I’ve never heard of it.

JOSH

You’re kidding me; you’ve never heard of Star Wars.

GEORGE

No, sorry.

JOSH

You must have heard of Darth Vader.

GEORGE (panicking).

Darth Vader? What do you know about him? Have you seen him too?

JOSH (puzzled).

I’ve only seen him in the movies.

GEORGE

So Darth Vader isn’t real then?

JOSH (laughing).

No. He’s just some guy dressed up.

GEORGE

So I don’t need to go the dance tonight then?

JOSH

If you don’t want to go…

GEORGE

I’m going to stay in and watch Science Fiction Theatre. Do you want to come around?

JOSH

Okay. I’ve nothing else to do.

GEORGE

I like you. How come I’ve never seen you around before?

JOSH

I’m new in the area.

GEORGE

Tell you what. Meet me at Lou’s café in the square at eight, and we can go round to my house from there.

JOSH

Okay, see you later.

GEORGE

See you.

George leaves the scene.

Scott creeps up behind Josh, and grabs his arm. Josh jumps round in shock.

JOSH

O.J? What the hell are you doing here? How did you…?

SCOTT

Never mind that now, what are you doing here?

JOSH

I just came on a little sightseeing trip.

SCOTT

Yeah, in somebody else’s time machine! You could screw history up. I should know. Do you know who that was you were talking to?

JOSH

Yeah, he’s my great-grandfather.

SCOTT

Yeah, well my name isn’t O.J. It’s Scott McFly. I’m your father. Well I will be one day.

JOSH (looking at Scott with disbelief).

My father? Okay… Whatever…

SCOTT

Look, do you just realize what you’ve just done?

JOSH

I’ve just told George that he should do what he wants to do rather than what everyone else tells him to do.

SCOTT

You’ve told him not to go to the dance haven’t you?

JOSH

Were you listening in?

SCOTT

George needs to go to that dance.

JOSH

Why?

SCOTT

Because it’s where he first gets together with Grandma Lorraine! If that doesn’t happen, they won’t get married and have kids. We’ll all be history!

JOSH

That sounds heavy.

SCOTT

This is all getting very complicated.

JOSH

So what were you doing in 2045? What year did you come from?

SCOTT

2015. I’m the same age as you. Come on, I need to fill you in on a few things. Then we can go and find Ellie Tannen.

JOSH

Ellie Tannen? Why is she here?

SCOTT

I’ve come to get you two back together again.

JOSH

Me and Ellie?

SCOTT

She becomes your wife.

JOSH

Get outa town.

SCOTT

It’s true.

JOSH

If she’s my wife, how do you know? You’re supposed to be from the past.

SCOTT

I am. I mean the future as a perspective of today. Look, I know it sounds confusing, but you need to get together with Ellie.

JOSH

I think you’ve got a screw loose.

SCOTT

No, I’m serious.

Josh isn’t listening.

JOSH

I’m outa here. See you later.

Josh starts to walk away. Scott grabs Josh’s arm to stop him.

SCOTT

Where are you going?

JOSH

Away from you. As if Ellie Tannen would go out with me. She’s in a different league to me.

SCOTT

Believe me you’re not.

JOSH

I don’t want to hear it. Let go of my arm.

Josh shakes his arm free and marches off. Scott stands staring in disbelief.

SCOTT

Josh… You don’t realize…

A metal cane raps Scott on the shoulder.

VOICE

Scott McFly! What the hell are you doing here?

Scott jumps around startled.

SCOTT

Biff?

Scott sees an old man in front of him. He is hunched over wearing a large brown trench coat and a large trilby hat. It is not old Biff Tannen, but he is waving a metal cane at him, which reminds him a bit of old Biff.

SCOTT

You… you’re not Biff… are you?

The old man nudges his hat up to reveal an old wrinkled face and wavy silvery white hair. It’s Doc Brown.

SCOTT

Doc? Is that really you. You look really… really…

OLD DOC

Old?

SCOTT

Yeah!

OLD DOC

I’m the oldest man on the planet. Well I am if you count all the years I’ve time traveled around and added them all together.

SCOTT

How old are you?

OLD DOC

If you look at my birth certificate, I’m 35 years old, but to get my real age, you need to add around another hundred at least.

SCOTT

135? How?

OLD DOC

Well I’ve had a number of re-juv’ treatments over my years on little trips to the future. Well that and I’ve always eaten well and exercised regularly.

SCOTT

It’s good to see you!

Scott flings his arms around his old friend. Doc winces.

OLD DOC

Careful; I’m not as young as I used to be.

Scott releases his grip and moves back.

SCOTT

Sorry Doc.

OLD DOC

You still haven’t answered my question Scott.

SCOTT (puzzled).

Eh?

OLD DOC

What the hell are you doing here in 1955?

SCOTT

It’s a long story.

OLD DOC

Let’s hear it then.

Ext. George McFly’s family’s street. George is making his way home. He crosses the road to his house and glances down the side of the building. Standing at attention down there is “Darth Vader” (Scott dressed up in the radiation suit). Scott points eerily at George.

GEORGE

Aaarrgh!!!

George runs towards his front door.

GEORGE (mumbling to himself).

He’s not real. He’s not real…

Int. George’s family’s Living room. George enters.

GEORGE

Mom? Dad?

There is no reply.

George turns and sees Scott in the radiation suit at the window. He dives down in front of a chair to hide.

GEORGE

He is real.

SCOTT (calling through the window, which is ajar, in a deep voice).

George McFly, I understand you want to defy me and not take earthling Lorraine Baines to the dance.

GEORGE (still hiding).

I… I…

SCOTT

I would like to assure you that I do exist and I am watching your every move. You know what will happen if you do not take her.

GEORGE

Yes… yes sir…

SCOTT

Tell me then; what will I do to you?

GEORGE

You… you will melt my brains…

SCOTT

That is correct. Do not forget it.

GEORGE (almost in tears).

I… I won’t.

There is silence. George waits a moment before daring to look over the chair. Scott has gone. George looks out of the window, and the street is empty.

Ext. Street around the corner under a tree. Scott meets up with Old Doc who’s waiting for him. Scott takes the hood of the radiation suit off.

OLD DOC

Did he buy it?

SCOTT

I think so.

OLD DOC

I hope so. Do you realize what could happen if George doesn’t go tonight?

SCOTT

Yes I do. Doc, Grandpa McFly will go to the dance, even if I have to take him there myself.

OLD DOC

Maybe that’s not a bad idea.

Ellie Tannen comes by.

ELLIE

Scott? Is that you?

Old Doc slips behind the tree. Scott turns round.

SCOTT

Ellie! Hi.

ELLIE

What are you doing here? Why are you wearing that?

SCOTT

I, err, nothing. Did you get the dress for tonight?

ELLIE

I sure did. You wouldn’t believe how cheap it was. Prices in the shops here are amazing.

Ellie holds up the box with the dress in.

ELLIE

I can’t wait for you to see me in it. I can’t believe any of this is real. It must be a dream. We are going to have such a great date tonight.

SCOTT

Hey, wait, I’m not going on a date with you tonight. I brought you here to go out with J…

ELLIE (butting in).

Oh, Scott you’re such a kidder. It’s all sorted. I’m going to go there with my new friend Babs, she’s so retro. My other new friend Lorraine is getting a lift with her new boyfriend. Is that okay to meet you there? Babs doesn’t want to walk on her own.

SCOTT

Sure. Listen Ellie, I don’t want a date with…

ELLIE (butting in again).

Listen I’ve gotta go. I’m meeting Babs and Lorraine.

Ellie kisses Scott on the cheek.

Old Doc appears from behind the tree.

OLD DOC

I think I’ve been here before.

Scott shrugs his shoulders.

Ext. George’s house. Evening. Scott, now wearing an evening suit, looks towards the upstairs window. George is in his room, looking worried pacing up and down in his best suit.

Josh arrives to watch TV with George. Scott goes up to him before he can knock on the door. Scott is carrying a suit in a bag.

SCOTT

Hey Josh. How are you?

JOSH

Not you again? Leave me alone.

SCOTT

Listen Josh, you don’t know what you are doing. If George doesn’t go to the dance…

JOSH

Yeah, yeah, yeah, so you said. What a load of garbage.

SCOTT

Garbage? If it’s all a load of garbage, how did you get back here to 1955 in the first place? Would you have believed in time travel before?

JOSH

Well…

SCOTT

Josh, listen to me. I become your father. Your Mom’s name is Suzy, and I will end up marrying her. I found all this out in the future.

JOSH

So if you’re my father, when is my date of birth?

SCOTT

How should I know, you haven’t been born yet… well from my point of view anyway.

JOSH

Why should I listen to you then?

SCOTT

Wait, wait…

Scott pulls out the piece of paper with the family tree on. He looks at it. Josh’s name is on there, but on just. It’s fading out along with every other name below George McFly. He holds it up to the light and squints.

SCOTT

You were born on… June 23rd, 2027. Is that correct?

JOSH

Yeah. But you could have looked it up.

SCOTT

Why would I?

JOSH

I don’t know.

SCOTT

Look, here’s a suit for you to wear to the dance. I’ve been traveling all over the past and the future in a time machine I should have left well alone and messed up far too much along the way. You, me and George all need to go to this dance to make everything better. It’s the only way. We’ll both be erased from history if we don’t go. I’m begging you.

Josh looks at Scott and thinks for a moment.

JOSH

But George doesn’t want to go.

SCOTT

We’ve got to get him there. This all began before any of us got here. Back in 1985 your Grandfather Marty became the first person to time travel and came here to 1955. George was supposed to get knocked down by Lorraine’s father and they fell in love as a result of it. Marty accidentally stopped George from getting knocked over and had to spend a week getting them together, and finally convinced him to go to the dance. Marty is going to take Lorraine to the dance and George has to win her from him. Now we’ve come along and put a spanner in the works…

The front door opens. It’s George.

GEORGE

Hello Josh, why didn’t you knock? Who’s you’re friend?

Scott looks at Josh with an expression of plea.

Josh looks at Scott and then George.

GEORGE

I was kinda thinking. I think I ought to go to the dance after all. What do you think?

Josh is speechless for a moment.

Eventually he makes his mind up and takes the suit from Scott.

JOSH

Yeah George, I came round to see if you want to come to the dance after all. Scott here is going to come with us.

GEORGE

Great! It’s good to meet you Scott. There’s a girl there I want to ask out, but I’m a little nervous about it.

SCOTT

I’m sure you’ll be fine. I have a car we can go in.

George looks at Scott.

GEORGE

Are you old enough to drive?

Ext. High School. Scott and Josh arrive at the school with George in Doc’s car. They all get out.

SCOTT

Remember George, if you put your mind to it you can accomplish anything.

George looks nervous. Scott looks at his watch. It’s 9pm.

SCOTT

Come on, it’s time you’ll miss her if you don’t hurry.

GEORGE

Do you really think she will go with me?

SCOTT

Most definitely! Now trust me. Marty will be in the car with her. Can you remember your line?

GEORGE

I hope so; I’ve been over it a thousand times. “Hey you, get your damn hands off of her!”

SCOTT

Go for it George.

Scott gives George a gentle shove and he goes off to find Lorraine.

JOSH (calling after George).

Good luck George.

George looks round with a sheepish smile on his face. He turns back and continues on his way.

JOSH

What do we do now?

SCOTT

This is where George becomes a man. It’s not your Grandpa in the car. It’s Biff Tannen.

JOSH

Biff Tannen? You should’ve told him.

SCOTT

Don’t worry. It’s meant to be this way.

Scott pulls out a pair of binoculars and scans the vicinity of the school.

In one direction, Scott sees Marvin Berry and his band trying to free Marty (version 1) from the trunk of his car.

Scott scans round and sees George approaching younger Doc’s car with Lorraine and Biff inside.

Nearby he sees a window with Strickland moving around his office.

Scott cuts back to George, to see the driver’s door of the car open. George appears stunned.

SCOTT

Precisely on time!

JOSH

I’m going to get a closer look.

SCOTT

No, Josh wait!

Ext. Younger Doc’s car. Biff towers above George.

BIFF

Are you deaf, McFly? Close the door and beat it.

George pauses a moment.

GEORGE

No, Biff, you leave her alone.

BIFF

All right, McFly, you’re asking for it, and now you’re gonna get it.

Biff gets out of the car. George tries to punch him, but Biff grabs his arm and twists it, causing George to let out cries of pain.

LORRAINE

Biff, stop it. Biff, you’re breaking his arm. Biff stop!

Josh runs towards the car.

JOSH

Hey, get off him!

Scott chases after Josh.

BIFF (to Josh).

Back off punk.

Scott grabs Josh and pulls him away.

SCOTT

Keep away Josh, leave George to it.

JOSH

But he’s killing him. We’ve got to stop him.

BIFF (calling after Scott pulling Josh away).

That’s it keep walking.

George looks at Scott and Josh in disbelief they’re not helping him.

LORRAINE

Stop it, stop it Biff! You’re gonna break his arm! Stop it!

Lorraine jumps on Biff.

LORRAINE

Biff, leave him alone! Let him go! Let him go!

Biff pushes her off and laughs.

Josh breaks free from Scott and rushes towards Biff.

JOSH

Hey! Get off him.

BIFF

I thought I told you to…

Biff’s sentence is cut short as George hits him in the face. Josh stops in his tracks with his jaw dropped. Biff falls to the floor.

George looks at his fist with an “I can’t believe it! I did it!” expression and then turns to Lorraine.

STUDENT (in the background).

There’s a fight over here, come on guys!

GEORGE (to Lorraine).

Are you okay?

George helps Lorraine up.

Josh turns to Scott with his jaw still hanging in disbelief. Scott grins and winks at Josh.

George leads Lorraine away towards the gym holding her hand. A crowd appears including Marty (version 1).

GIRL

Who is that guy?

BOY

That’s George McFly.

GIRL (in disbelief).

That’s George McFly?

Scott sees Marty (version 1) look at a photograph before rushing away.

SCOTT

Yes, that really happened Josh. Come on, let’s go to the gym.

JOSH

I didn’t know he had it in him.

SCOTT

He most certainly does. And so do you. You’re a McFly remember.

Scott and Josh head off to the gymnasium.

A figure, wearing a long coat and a baseball cap, watches from the shadows. Marty (version 2) arrives on the scene towards the unconscious Biff.

MARTY (Version 2)

Okay everybody, let’s back up now, huh, let’s backup, just everybody back up. Give him a little bit of room, okay, a little bit of air. It’s okay. I know CPR, I know CPR.

The figure continues to watch from a safe distance. Biff begins to wake up.

BIFF

Hey…

GUY

What’s CPR?

Biff opens his eyes and sees Marty (version 2).

BIFF (to Marty version 2).

You!

Marty (version 2) punches Biff back into unconsciousness and takes the Almanac (from Back to the Future part 2) out of Biff’s jacket.

MARTY (Version 2)

He’s fine.

Marty (version 2) runs off and the figure watching steps out from the shadows. The camera pans round him from the back slowly.

GUY

Hey, did you just take his wallet? He just took that guy’s wallet!

The camera arrives at the figure’s face. He lifts his cap revealing that it’s 47-year-old Marty from 2015.

MARTY SENIOR

Whoa, talk about serious deja vu.

Marty Senior then doubles up in pain for a moment and is alright again.

MARTY SENIOR

That did not feel good.

Ext side of school. Scott and Josh see Marty (version 2) nearby taking into a walkie-talkie.

They both have pains similar to what Marty Senior just had.

JOSH

What was that?

SCOTT

Don’t know, but we both felt it.

There is a rumble of thunder in the distance.

Jules and Verne come into view.

SCOTT

Jules! Verne! What… How did you get here?

VERNE

Remember the time tracker I installed in the DeLorean? It told us you were here.

JULES

We guessed you’d be here at the Enchantment Under the Sea dance.

JOSH

Who are you?

SCOTT

Josh, remember I was telling you about the Doc? Well these are his sons, Jules and Verne. They’re currently living in Hill Valley in 2115. Jules; Verne; this is Josh… my son.

Josh, Jules and Verne greet each other.

VERNE

We’re here to make sure you get back to the future in one piece. This date is proving to be a bit of a crossroads in the space-time continuum. There are all sorts of events going on today.

SCOTT

You can say that again.

Scott and Josh experience another rush of pain.

JOSH

What’s happening to us?

VERNE

What you are experiencing is the effects of being erased from history.

JOSH

Erased? What?

SCOTT

How?

JULES

Until George and Lorraine get together, your futures won’t be secure, so you’ll feel some peculiar side effects.

VERNE

If you have any photographs of yourself, you will see that your images will be fading.

JOSH

What can we do about it?

JULES

Well, you could always watch history in the making. Come on.

SCOTT

Where?

VERNE

To the dance of course.

Int. Gymnasium. Scott and Josh arrive with Jules and Verne to see Marty (version 1) playing “Earth Angel” on stage with Marvin Berry and the Starlighters. George and Lorraine are together dancing.

SCOTT

Cool!

Jules, Verne, and Josh mingle into the crowd. Scott stands in awe at his teenage father playing on stage. A hand is placed on his shoulder and a man speaks into his ear.

MAN

Pretty good huh?

SCOTT

He’s fantastic…

Scott turns around to see his father Marty.

SCOTT

Dad!

MARTY SENIOR

Alright son?

SCOTT

What are you doing here?

MARTY

Jules and Verne stopped by and asked to come and help them sort the past out. They needed someone who could show them around November 12th 1955. What better person could eh?

Scott and Marty Senior get another rush of pain. On stage, Marty (version 1) starts playing the guitar badly. On the floor a bully (Mark Dixon) is trying to cut in on the dance George and Lorraine are having. Everything starts to sound distorted.

LORRAINE

George! George!

MARTY SENIOR (bent over).

This is heavy!

Marty Senior and Scott look at each other. Scott manages to see straight through his father.

Across the dance floor, George pushes Dixon aside.

GEORGE

Excuse me.

Marty (version 2) rushes into the gymnasium he looks around, and he also begins to feel faint.

George pushes Dixon away from Lorraine and they look at each other. Then George and Lorraine kiss.

Suddenly Marty Senior and Scott stand upright as if they’d both got a new lease in life.

On stage Marty (version 1)’s playing improves again and he, along with band finish the song.

Biff’s gang enters the gymnasium and Marty (version 2) dives under a table.

SCOTT

What a rush!

The dancers cheer.

MARVIN BERRY (on stage).

Yeah man, that was good. Let’s do another one!

Scott pulls out the family tree from his pocket. The McFly family has appeared up to Scott’s generation.

MARTY (version 1 on stage)

Uh, well, I gotta go.

Scott sees Josh across the floor standing by the table Marty is under. He is still feeling faint.

MARVIN (on stage)

C’mon man, let’s do something that really cooks.

SCOTT (to himself).

What? Josh is still fading? It should be alright now.

MARTY (version 1 on stage)

Something that really cooks.

Biff’s gang spot Marty (version 1) on stage thinking it is Marty (version 2).

MARTY SENIOR

Hey Scotty, there’s someone over there who wouldn’t mind a dance with you right now.

On the stage in the background. Marty (version 1) is instructing the band how to play along with him.

SCOTT

Eh?

Scott looks over to Jules and Verne, and sees a young girl with them dressed in a blue frilly fifties ball gown. He sees it is Suzy.

Marty (version 1) and the Starlighters start to play “Johnny B Goode”.

SCOTT

Suzy? You brought her too?

MARTY SENIOR

I’ve come to understand she’s going to be part of the family in the future. You’d better ask her to dance.

Biff’s gang head up to the stage to jump Marty (version 1).

Marty Senior watches Scott as he walks over to Suzy and the two begin to dance to Johnny B Goode.

The dance floor is alive with dancers enjoying the “new sound” Marty (version 1) is cooking up for them.

Scott and Suzy continue to dance. Scott notices that Josh is still looking ill at the side of the gymnasium.

Marty (version 2) emerges from the table and begins to head over to the stage. He stops for a moment to listen to Marty (version 1) playing on stage.

MARTY (version 2 to himself).

Pretty good stuff.

Marty Senior is standing next to Marty (version 2). He doesn’t notice who it is.

MARTY SENIOR

Pretty good? That guy is amazing. He’s going places.

MARTY (version 2).

Huh?

Both Marty Senior and Marty (version 2) turn and look at each other. The both jump at the sight of each other.

Marty (version 2) looks Marty Senior, and the reaction Marty Senior gives makes Marty (version 2) realize that it’s him as an old man!

MARTY (version 2).

I’m old!

Marty (version 2) faints onto the floor.

MARTY SENIOR

Damn! No! No! No!

Marty Senior grabs a drink off of the side and throws into his younger counterpart’s face. The even earlier counterpart continues to play Johnny B Goode. Marty Senior slaps Marty (version 2) around the face a few times.

MARTY SENIOR

C’mon c’mon c’mon.

Marty (version 2) comes round.

MARTY (version 2).

You… you’re…

MARTY SENIOR

No time to explain. Just forget you saw me.

MARTY (version 2).

Wha…?

MARTY SENIOR

Get up there to the left hand side of the stage climb up the ladder, climb across stage and drop the sandbags on Biff’s gang. Trust me.

Marty (version 2) tries to take all this in.

MARTY (version 2 coming to his senses).

Biff’s gang!

MARTY SENIOR

You’ve got to do it before the end of the song. Quick.

Marty Senior escorts his bewildered counterpart across to the side of the stage and to the bottom of the ladder.

MARTY SENIOR

Go on, be quick and don’t come back looking for me afterwards.

MARTY (version 2).

Errr… Okay.

Marty (version 2) gives one last confused look at Marty Senior before disappearing up the ladder to cross the stage.

Marvin Berry comes to the side of the stage to uses the telephone. Marty Senior dodges out of the way.

Marty Senior watches Marty (version 2) climb over the stage from a safe distance. Marty (version 1) begins to get carries away with his singing.

Marvin Berry gets through on the telephone to his cousin Chuck.

MARVIN

Chuck, Chuck, its Marvin. Your cousin, Marvin Berry! You know that new sound you’ve been looking for? Well, listen to this!

Marvin holds the telephone towards the stage. Marty Senior smiles to himself. He looks across the dance floor and sees Scott and Suzy dancing.

Cut across to Scott and Suzy dancing to Johnny B Goode. They are dancing in a more modern way to the rest of the dancers.

SUZY

So why didn’t you bring me with you?

SCOTT

It was something I needed to sort out for myself. I didn’t want to risk getting you into any more danger.

SUZY

Did you sort it out then? Whatever you had to do?

Scott looks at the paper with the family tree on, which he’s still clutching in his hand.

SCOTT

I’m getting there.

Marty (version 1) is playing more and more erratically. All the dancers gradually stop dancing, as do Suzy and Scott.

SUZY

You’re getting there? What else do you have to do?

Scott nervously looks round and sees Josh, who doesn’t look at all well. He’s sitting on a bench looking nauseous. Scott turns back to Suzy. He takes a deep breath and looks her in the eye.

SUZY (looking confused at Scott).

What is it Scott? What do you need to do?

SCOTT

This.

Scott leans forward. He closes his eyes and plants a kiss right on Suzy’s lips. She is stunned for a moment, but returns the compliment.

Josh suddenly sits bolt upright and then stands up. He is no longer being erased from history.

Marty (version 1) finishes playing on stage by sliding along on his knees on the final note. The crowd looks speechlessly at him.

On the far side of the stage, Marty (version 2) successfully drops the sandbags on top of Biff’s gang.

Scott and Suzy stand arm in arm kissing in the middle of the dance floor.

Marty (version 2) leaves the back of the stage.

MARTY (version 1 on stage).

I guess you guys aren’t ready for that yet. But your kids are gonna love it.

Marty (version 2) smiles and leaves the stage, pauses after seeing Biff’s gang under the sandbags, and then leaves.

George and Lorraine head over to the back of the stage area. George spots Scott on the way over and raises his hand. Scott responds, and he and Suzy break their clinch.

SUZY

Who was that?

SCOTT

Would you believe…? My Grandparents!

Suzy looks round and sees them at the doorway, talking to Marty (version 1).

SUZY

They’re your Grandparents? Cool.

SCOTT

They’ve just had their first kiss and now they’re gonna be spending the rest of their lives together.

Suzy kisses Scott

SUZY

Wow! Imagine if we spend the rest of our lives together. What a great place to share our first kiss. Do you think we’ll grow old together?

SCOTT

I guarantee we will.

MARVIN BERRY (on stage)

Well folks that looks like it’s the end of the dance.

A few people in the crowd call for more.

Marvin holds his injured hand up.

MARVIN

I’m afraid, unless anyone else can play the guitar, there’ll be no more music tonight.

Scott takes out his family tree again. Suzy gazes around the room. Scott looks at the paper and sees Josh is now on their, but the descendants then on still do not show.

SUZY

What a shame, I was just beginning to enjoy myself.

Scott looks at the paper again.

SCOTT

Ellie! Where is she? I forgot all about her being here.

SUZY

Who’s Ellie?

SCOTT

She’s part of the reason I’m here.

SUZY

You’re here for another girl?

SCOTT

No, it’s not like that.

Scott looks up at the stage at the musicians preparing to finish for the evening.

SCOTT

We need more music. Where’s Ellie?

SUZY

What’s going on?

SCOTT

Bear with me a moment.

Scott looks to see Josh sitting on a bench over at one end of the gymnasium looking miserable. He’s with Jules and Verne. Verne gives Scott a small wave and a wink as he’s seen that he’s got together with Suzy. Scott gives a small polite wave back.

Scott looks around and around until eventually he sees Ellie across the other side of the gymnasium. Ellie is standing there in her ball gown with Mark Dixon, the youth who was all over Lorraine.

Scott makes a bee-line over to her. Suzy follows behind.

SCOTT

Ellie! Ellie!

Ellie looks round and sees Scott.

ELLIE

Scott! Where have you been? I didn’t think you were coming.

Ellie looks at Suzy.

ELLIE

Who’s this you’re with?

SCOTT

This is Suzy. We’re sort of together now.

Suzy grabs Scott’s hand.

ELLIE (looking disappointed).

Oh…

SCOTT

Josh is here. He’d like to dance with you.

Ellie looks at Scott for a moment.

ELLIE

Josh? I don’t need Josh; I’m with someone else now.

Ellie puts her arms around Dixon and gives him a lingering kiss. She then looks back at Scott for a reaction.

SCOTT

Come on Ellie, you would do so much better with Josh. You can’t possibly have anything in common with him.

DIXON

What’s that supposed to mean?

SCOTT

Well, you are a bit of a sleaze from what I’ve seen.

DIXON

Beat it, before I give you a knuckle sandwich.

Just then there is an announcement on stage.

MARVIN BERRY

Ladies and gentlemen; I have some good news. It appears we have a guitarist in the building after all, and he say’s “if you thought the last number rocked, you ain’t seen nothing yet”.

Scott and Suzy look up on stage to see Marty Senior instructing the band how to play the number.

SUZY

It’s your dad!

SCOTT (smiling).

This is going to be good!

MARTY SENIOR (on stage).

Hey everybody, I’ve just time for one number. I hope the last one warmed you up, because this one is going to blow your minds.

The students look at each other and chatter excitedly.

MARTY

A-one, a-two, a-one, two, three, four…

Marty Senior kicks into his song. He’s playing “The Power of Love”, the same song he played at the battle of the bands at school when he was 17!

The crowd goes wild and dance like they’ve never danced before.

SCOTT

Wow, this is fantastic!

Scott looks around to see that Dixon has taken Ellie across the floor away from them.

SCOTT

Sorry, Suzy. I’ll be right back. I’ve got to get Josh together with Ellie.

SUZY

Who’s Josh?

SCOTT

I can’t tell you. It could complicate matters.

SUZY

Isn’t all this complicated enough?

SCOTT

Please, just trust me on this.

Scott slips away quickly.

Marty Senior continues playing to an excited crowd. The band loves it too.

Scott gets over to Josh.

SCOTT

Josh, Josh. Ellie is here. You’ve got to go and dance with her.

JOSH

She’s here. Where is she?

SCOTT

Over there.

Scott points across the dance floor. Josh sees Ellie with Dixon all over her.

JOSH

She’s with someone else.

SCOTT

Then go and win her back. You saw how George dealt with it outside. You were even going to help out yourself. You’ve never done that before.

JOSH

No I haven’t, have I?

SCOTT

Go for it then.

Josh thinks about it for a moment.

JOSH

Alright I will.

Josh pushes his way through the crowd.

SCOTT

Go for it!

Josh makes his way up to Ellie and Dixon.

JOSH

Hey Ellie.

Ellie notices Josh.

ELLIE

Josh?

JOSH

Would you care for a dance?

DIXON

No she would not.

JOSH

I was asking Ellie, not you.

ELLIE

Yes I do have a tongue in my head.

DIXON

Look dork, this chick is mine, go find somebody else.

ELLIE

I’m not a chick.

JOSH

Ellie?

Josh doesn’t move.

DIXON

You’re asking for it.

Dixon pushes Josh over and pulls Ellie away by her arm.

DIXON

Come on, let’s get out of here.

ELLIE

Let go of my arm.

Dixon continues to pull her away. Josh gets up off of the floor and bows his head. He turns to walk away.

ELLIE

Josh!

DIXON

Come on girl, we’re leaving.

Ellie stamps on Dixon’s foot.

DIXON

Owww. Why you hoar.

Dixon now puts his arms round Ellie and drags her towards the doorway.

ELLIE

Get off me you creep.

DIXON

You’re gonna pay for that.

Dixon continues to drag Ellie away. None of the other dancers stop to help as they’re too busy listening to Marty Senior’s “Fresh” sound.

ELLIE

Josh! Help me.

Josh pauses for another moment and then turns round and rushes towards the door. He reaches Dixon and Ellie.

DIXON (to Josh).

Can’t you take a hint?

JOSH

Let go of her.

DIXON

What are you going to do about it if I don’t?

Josh punches Dixon right in the face, and lays him out cold.

JOSH

That’s what I’m going to do. Are you alright Ellie?

ELLIE

Josh? I… I never knew you had it in you?

JOSH

Neither did I.

Ellie and Josh look into each other’s eyes and then slowly kiss.

Scott, now back with Suzy, looks at the family tree. The future family have re-appeared.

SUZY

What’s that you keep looking at?

SCOTT

It’s the future. Everything’s going to be alright.

Suzy looks puzzled, shakes her head and gives Scott another kiss.

Marty finishes off playing “The Power of Love” on stage. The crowd erupts in applause.

MARTY SENIOR

Thank you very much. You’ve been a wonderful crowd. You don’t realize how much playing tonight means to me.

Marty Senior looks across and sees Mr. Strickland with his hands on his ears. He smiles.

MARTY SENIOR

Don’t worry Mr. Strickland sir. That’s all for tonight. Goodnight everybody.

Marty walks off stage. Marvin chases after him.

MARVIN

Hey, hey, hey. Wait.

Marty stops.

MARVIN

You were pretty good there. Why don’t you stop for another one?

MARTY SENIOR

I’d love to, but time is getting on. I’ve gotta be somewhere.

Marty hands the guitar to Marvin.

MARVIN

That’s a shame. The crowd loves you. Hey, you look rather similar to the young guy who played before. Are you two related by any chance?

MARTY SENIOR

You could say that…

Marty winks at Marvin and hurries off down the steps and out of the door. Marvin looks on wondering at what Marty meant.

A rumble of thunder sounds outside.

MARVIN (to himself).

That sounds like one hell of a storm brewing out there.

Across the gymnasium, Verne moves over to Scott.

VERNE

Can I have a word Scott?

SCOTT

Sure.

Scott leaves Suzy’s side.

VERNE

I think it’s time we were off. Everything is as it should be now.

Scott shows Verne his family tree.

SCOTT

Yeah. Everything is just perfect. Look. My future family is still going to be born. And best of all, I’m not going to get killed in 2045!

Scott looks at the paper again.

SCOTT

Hang on a minute, there’s no date of death below my name.

The writing on the family tree below Scott’s name begins to shimmer as if it’s going to show him when his date of death is.

SCOTT

I think it’s working it out… Or something.

Verne snatches the sheet away from Scott.

VERNE

You know too much about the future as it is. The last thing you need to know is when you’re going to die.

Verne tears the sheet up into little pieces.

VERNE

We’ve got to get Suzy home without her discovering that Josh is her son. Let’s leave that as a surprise. Jules is going to make sure Josh and Ellie gat back to 2045. Where’s your father? Let’s not hang about.

SCOTT

Dad? I haven’t seen him since he played on stage.

They both look around to see if they can find Marty Senior.

Students are preparing to go home.

George and Lorraine are just leaving the building arm in arm.

Jules is over with Josh and Ellie preparing to leave with them.

Marty Senior is nowhere to be seen.

Scott calls Suzy over again.

SCOTT

Suzy; have you seen my dad?

SUZY

No, not for a while.

SCOTT

Then where the hell is he?

Outside thunder can be heard again.

Verne looks at his watch.

VERNE

Nine Fifty-Three. I bet I know where he’s gone.

Ext Courthouse Square. The clock tower strikes 10pm. Old Doc Brown is standing behind a parked car watching his one hundred-year-younger counterpart across the way standing on the ledge, high up, near the clock conducting his “weather experiment”.

The wind is howling and the thunder and lightning is starting to get wild. A DeLorean speeds away from the scene.

Behind Old Doc a figure approaches.

MARTY SENIOR

Doc?

Old Doc stands for a moment.

OLD DOC

Marty?

Old Doc hobbles around with his metal cane and sees Marty Senior looking at him.

OLD DOC

Marty!

MARTY SENIOR

Doc!

OLD DOC

Marty! I don’t believe it.

The two old friends hug.

MARTY SENIOR

Doc? Is it really you?

OLD DOC

More to the point, is it really you Marty? What are you doing here?

MARTY SENIOR

Well I was in the area, so I thought I’d drop by for old time’s sake.

OLD DOC

You came to find your son didn’t you Marty? I should have guessed.

MARTY SENIOR

How old are you now Doc? You must be getting on a bit now.

OLD DOC

I was 135 at the last count.

MARTY SENIOR

135? Whoa, that’s heavy. Those Re-juvenation clinics in the future must’ve done a good job on you.

Marty pauses for a second.

MARTY SENIOR

Should you be out in this weather at you age?

OLD DOC

No, I probably shouldn’t. I probably shouldn’t have come here to witness this historic occasion, but finally reaching this date again after so many years, I thought what the hell.

MARTY SENIOR

Wow, you’ve been living here since 1885 then? I came here with Jules and Verne, but I haven’t had a chance to catch up with them yet.

OLD DOC

Jules and Verne are here too? Have they come from 2155?

MARTY SENIOR

No, they’ve come from 2115.

OLD DOC

2115? They shouldn’t be here. I mean I can’t meet up with them. They’re supposed to be living in a parallel time in the future, so when they come home to visit, it would be as if they’d never gone anywhere.

MARTY SENIOR (confused).

Never gone anywhere?

OLD DOC

They would be the correct age for the time they visiting. They were born in this time line Marty. This is their future, not their past.

MARTY SENIOR

Would it be too much of a problem if they met you?

OLD DOC

Clara died Marty. They’d want to know about how it came about.

MARTY SENIOR

Clara’s dead? Geez Doc I’m sorry.

OLD DOC

It was many years ago Marty. She was an old lady.

MARTY SENIOR

I can understand you don’t want them to know. Don’t worry they don’t know I’m here. At the square I mean.

OLD DOC

Watching history happen?

They both look over to the clock tower. 35-year-old Doc is hanging from it trying to connect cables to send 17-year-old Marty Back to 1985.

Young Doc slips, a piece of the ledge crumbles and the cable slips catching onto his trousers.

MARTY SENIOR

Whoa, Doc. I didn’t realize you went through so much to get the cables connected. I’ll have to add that to my story.

OLD DOC

Your story? The one you wrote that Scott found? The reason he took the DeLorean in the first place?

MARTY SENIOR (sheepishly).

Yeah, that’s the one.

OLD DOC

Great Scott Marty, don’t you realize how much trouble that story has caused? You must erase as soon as you get back. Do you realize how many times we could have caused a paradox in this dimension, just by being here today?

MARTY SENIOR

Yeah Doc, more than you realize.

OLD DOC

I wouldn’t be surprised if this entire thunderstorm was the result of all the multi-dimensional time-traveling to this one day.

Marty looks at the war-torn sky.

MARTY SENIOR

Heavy! So how come there was a thunderstorm in the original timeline? I mean before I came back in the first place?

OLD DOC

By my calculations, every eventual happening, from every point of view happens. The original timeline, where none of us came back in time is happening right here, right now, but in another dimension. There are so many alternatives for this day, is it any wonder the heavens can’t cope with it all?

MARTY SENIOR

Dimensions? You’re getting a bit too complicated now Doc.

OLD DOC

Trust me Marty; I’ve spent years studying the possibilities. If I could just show you some of the things I’ve discovered.

MARTY SENIOR

They’d just go way over my head. Let’s just stick to this evening. What’s time is it anyway?

OLD DOC (looking at his watch).

It’s 10.03pm.

MARTY SENIOR

It’s almost time.

Old Doc and Marty Senior move to a better viewing position, but still hidden from the view of 35-year-old Doc. Old Doc hobbles with his metal cane.

Young Doc, with a loop of rope around his hands slides down the cable to the ground.

The sound of the DeLorean comes closer.

The clock strikes 10.04pm. A huge bolt of lightning slams into the clock tower.

The DeLorean appears on the scene.

Young Doc grabs the two separated cable connectors and plugs them together. The lightning passes though it mildly shocking him in the process.

The DeLorean connects with the overhead cable and vanishes from sight leaving two streaks of fire down the road.

MARTY SENIOR

That was pretty impressive Doc.

OLD DOC

Thankyou.

Young Doc dances in the road.

YOUNG DOC

Yoo! It works! Ha, ha, ha.

Old Doc and Marty move in for a closer look.

Marty (version 2) runs up to Young Doc from behind the courthouse.

MARTY (version 2).

Doc! Doc Doc!

YOUNG DOC

What?

MARTY (version 2).

Doc!

Young Doc turns and sees Marty (version 2).

YOUNG DOC

Aaarrgh! A Ghost!

MARTY (version 2).

Okay, relax Doc, it’s me, it’s me, it’s Marty!

YOUNG DOC

No it can’t be you… I just sent you back to the future!

MARTY (version 2).

I know, you did send me back to the future, but I’m back, I’m back from the future!

YOUNG DOC

Great Scott!

Young Doc faints and Marty (version 2) bends down to tend to him.

MARTY (version 2).

Doc. C’mon Doc, wake up…

OLD DOC (quietly to Marty Senior).

Come on Marty, there’s nothing more to see here.

Old Doc and Marty Senior move away over the square away from Marty (version 2), who’s trying to drag unconscious Young Doc to his car.

MARTY SENIOR

This weather’s terrible. We’d better get you indoors. You’ll catch your death out here.

OLD DOC

Don’t worry about me Marty. I’ve had my fair share of life as it is.

Behind them Marty (version 2) is lifting Young Doc into the car.

In front of them, four figures run towards them. It’s Scott and Suzy, followed shortly behind by Jules and Verne.

SCOTT

Dad! Dad!

MARTY SENIOR

Scott!

SCOTT

We heard the lightning crash into the clock tower. Is everything okay?

MARTY SENIOR

Yeah, fine. There I am taking Doc home over there.

Marty (version 2) drives Young Doc away to the Brown Mansion.

Old Doc recognizes Jules and Verne as they arrive.

OLD DOC

Jules, Verne. What are you doing here?

JULES

Dad? You shouldn’t be here. You’re… you’re… old!

OLD DOC

Of course I’m old. I’m forty years older than I’m supposed to be for you. What did I tell you both when you moved to the future?

VERNE

Yeah we know Dad; we’re only supposed to come back to the same year, two hundred years earlier so our lives run parallel.

JULES

It was an emergency Dad.

MARTY SENIOR

Scott; who were those other kids you were with at the dance?

SCOTT

Err… Just some local kids we accidentally bumped into. It’s a long story. We left them back at the school. They’re waiting there so Jules can drive them home later.

JULES

Yeah, I can’t be too long here, I’ve got to take them home.

Marty Senior and Suzy look confused.

VERNE (chirping in to change the subject).

Dad; where’s Mom?

OLD DOC

Verne. I am from your future. You shouldn’t be asking questions like that. You know the damage it can cause.

VERNE

I know that Dad. I only asked where Mom was.

OLD DOC

I can’t tell you anything.

VERNE

Is something wrong? She is our mother. If something’s wrong…

Old Doc gets angry and waves his metal cane in the air.

OLD DOC

Verne. Stop asking questions. You know sometimes, I wish I hadn’t invented time travel. It causes too many complications!

Suddenly another bolt of lightning strikes down and catches Old Doc’s cane. He lights up and shakes until the bolt disappears. He then falls to the ground motionless. Electricity flickers around him.

Everyone calls out is surprise.

Jules kneels down beside him to check whether Old Doc is okay or not.

Moments later he looks up to everyone else. Tears are in his eyes.

Rain continues to pour down.

JULES

He’s dead!

The camera pans away into the sky looking down onto Old Doc’s body. Jules, Verne, Marty Senior, Scott and Suzy stand shocked and upset looking down at him.

The camera fades to black.

Ext. Boot Hill Cemetery. Sunday, November 13th 1955, 11.20pm. The camera returns from the fade from black. It is night time. The camera pans away from a gravestone which doesn’t have a name on it - just a quote: “Whatever one man is capable of conceiving, the other men will be able to achieve – Jules Verne”.

Jules, Verne, Marty Senior, Scott and Suzy stand around the freshly filled in grave site.

MARTY SENIOR

I can’t believe he’s gone.

VERNE

I know, but on the other hand, he hasn’t gone. It’s strange; Jules and I will have to live another forty years with him, knowing when and how he’s going to die.

JULES

This is what he’d have wanted; a subtle anonymous gravestone, out here, where nobody would make a fuss.

Scott has his arm around a sobbing Suzy.

SUZY

We saw him die, and now we’re going to go back to 2015 and see him again. It’s really… spooky.

SCOTT

But he’s alive and well there.

SUZY

It just doesn’t seem right.

MARTY SENIOR

Another problem time travel poses.

Scott lets go of Suzy and takes Jules to one side.

SCOTT

Jules, did Josh and Ellie arrive back safely in 2045?

JULES

Yeah, don’t worry, they’re fine. I made sure they got home without disrupting any more events. I took the train and they took the pre-Mister Fusion DeLorean. Josh wanted me thank you for everything, and he can’t wait to talk to you about it.

SCOTT

Yeah, cool. Thanks for that. It’s a nice gravestone you got.

JULES

I picked it up whilst I was still in 2045.

SCOTT

It would do him proud.

Jules sheds a tear. Verne gives his brother a hug. Scott moves back towards Suzy.

VERNE

What are we going to do about Dad’s house? It’s bad enough that Dad’s gone, but Mom’s gone too.

JULES

We’ve got all the time in the world to sort the house out. We’ve got to be careful not to find any details about her death.

VERNE

We could move back home.

JULES

What about our work in the future?

VERNE

Not now. We can sort it out in forty years time, when this is properly our time.

Jules ponders the thought. Marty Senior comes over to talk to Jules and Verne.

MARTY SENIOR

I’m going to be here with Doc tomorrow. Well, the younger version of me is. The DeLorean is buried over there in the mine. It’s been there since 1885.

VERNE

So it is. We’d better get you all home and tie up the loose ends. We can come back here in the future. It’ll still be here.

JULES

Come on everyone. Let’s go to 2015.

Jules, Verne, Marty Senior, Scott and Suzy walk away from the cemetery.

When they are out of sight, four more people come out of the shadows; two men in their late sixties, with similar aged female partners. The moonlight reveals that it is older versions Jules and Verne with their future wives. They stand around the gravestone to pay their respects. The camera pans away into the sky towards the moon.

Ext.DeLorean. Scott and Suzy are in the car. Marty Senior is ready to climb inside. Jules and Verne are there to see them off.

VERNE

Right Marty; you know what to do now then?

MARTY SENIOR

Yeah. We fly down this lane and when we hit 88 miles-per-hour we will arrive outside Suzy’s house back in 2015. Doc will be there and will have just seen you taking us back to here to 1955.

VERNE

We’ll meet you there straight after I’ve parked up the train. We’ll just make sure everything is okay in 2015 before we head off back to 2115.

MARTY SENIOR

I do hope everything is okay. All this time traveling is bad for the nerves.

VERNE

I’m sure everything will be just fine.

Marty Senior smiles and gets into the DeLorean. He starts it up, the wheels turn in and it lifts it into the air.

Int. DeLorean. Marty Senior, Scott and Suzy prepare to go home.

SUZY

This is strange. This will be my street in sixty years time. It’s barely recognizable now.

Suzy looks at Scott.

SUZY

That reminds me; we’ve got to get our assignment for school done.

SCOTT

Do you mean the history of Hill Valley assignment?

SUZY

Yes, that one. I think we’ve done enough research for it now.

Scott and Suzy chuckle.

Marty Senior jerks the DeLorean.

SCOTT

Steady on Dad.

MARTY SENIOR

I’ve forgotten how to fly a car. It just seems a little tricky.

SCOTT

The future has changed again then. Back to how I remember it originally. I should’ve driven Dad.

MARTY SENIOR

You’re only fifteen Scott. You shouldn’t have driven it at all.

SCOTT

At least I can fly it straight.

MARTY SENIOR

That’s only because you’re never off those video games; the ones where you fly those simulators.

SCOTT

I bet you played video games when you were younger.

MARTY SENIOR (smiling to himself).

Well, I was pretty hot at Wild Gunman. I loved that game.

Ext. DeLorean. Marty steadily flies the DeLorean up and sweeps it around to face the length of the lane. He flies faster and as he hits 88 miles-per-hour, three sonic booms are heard, the DeLorean flashes with light and the scenery around changes to resemble the street where Suzy lives.

(Monday, October 26th 2015, 6.35am).

Int. DeLorean. Marty Senior attempts to land.

SCOTT

Dad! You can slow down now, we’re here.

Marty Senior hits the brakes, and bounces on the road as he tries to land. Suzy yelps.

The DeLorean continues to skid and bounce along and Marty Senior knocks some trash cans out of the way as he tries to see where he is going. He is heading towards a fire hydrant.

SCOTT

Dad! Mind the hydrant.

Marty Senior swerves and misses the hydrant. Suddenly they see Doc, but it’s too late. They have plowed into him. There is a loud thump as Doc is thrown over the DeLorean.

Ext. DeLorean. Marty Senior screeches to a halt. The gull-wing doors open quickly and Marty Senior, Scott and Suzy leap out. They rush over to Doc.

MARTY SENIOR

Doc! Doc! Doc!

Eric Wilson, who was left with Doc, comes running over.

ERIC

What the hell have you done?

SCOTT

Back off Scott. Dad didn’t see him.

Marty Senior kneels over Doc who’s lying unconscious at the side of the road.

MARTY SENIOR

Doc! Doc? Can you hear me?

Doc is motionless.

SUZY

Do something!

MARTY SENIOR

It’s okay, I know CPR.

Marty Senior leans over Doc and turns head to one side to feel for breath. Scott feels for a pulse.

MARTY SENIOR

He’s not breathing.

SCOTT

I can’t feel a pulse either!

SUZY

What does that mean?

MARTY SENIOR

It means we could all be in serious trouble.

Marty Senior checks Doc’s airway and then tilts his head back. He begins to perform artificial respiration.

SCOTT

Still no pulse.

Suzy looks around. Marty continues to try to resuscitate Doc.

MARTY SENIOR

Come on Doc! Don’t die!

SUZY

Where are Jules and Verne?

A swirling black cloud begins to form in the sky above them. A rumble of thunder sounds.

ERIC

Where did that come from?

Between rounds of resuscitation attempts, Marty Senior looks up.

MARTY SENIOR

It looks like a paradox could be happening. Come on Doc, wake up!

ERIC

What’s a paradox?

SCOTT

If Doc dies, we won’t meet him in his future, his children won’t be born, they won’t help us, we won’t be here now, and Doc wouldn’t get hit by the car. If Doc doesn’t get hit by the car, everything would happen again and we’d hit him with the car.

ERIC

Eh?

SUZY

Basically, everything that happened to us would end up being impossible and the universe would end, is what I think he’s trying to say.

ERIC

You’ve lost me completely.

SCOTT (short and sharp).

If Doc dies, everyone does!

ERIC

Save him then!

MARTY SENIOR

I’m trying to. Come on Doc!

SCOTT

There’s still no pulse.

Marty starts pumping on Doc’s chest to get his heart working again.

A wind begins to pick up causing leaves to blow around them. The swirling black cloud begins to look aggressive. More thunder sounds.

Marty Senior starts to have tears roll down his cheek. He tries respiration methods on Doc again.

MARTY SENIOR (sounding more desperate).

Not like this Doc, not like this. Is there anything Scott?

SCOTT (also getting upset).

No, nothing.

Lightning strikes around them. Eric and Suzy look on nervously as Marty tries to pump Doc’s chest again.

MARTY SENIOR

Has all this been for nothing?

SCOTT

It’s not working.

Suzy bursts into tears.

Marty Senior tries pumping on Doc’s chest again.

SCOTT

Dad! It’s not working! He’s dead!

MARTY SENIOR

No! He can’t be.

Marty Senior tries to resuscitate Doc again more desperately.

It’s almost like a hurricane around them. Eric holds Suzy because she’s distraught.

Marty beats down on Doc’s chest again.

MARTY SENIOR

No, come on Doc. Come on!

SCOTT

Dad?

Marty Senior gives one harder thump on Doc’s chest.

MARTY SENIOR

Live!

Doc lurches and takes a sharp intake of breath.

MARTY SENIOR

Doc!

SCOTT

He’s back!

The thunder, lightning and wind suddenly stop. The black swirling cloud above them dissolves into nothing and all is calm.

Doc starts coughing, and slowly regaining consciousness.

MARTY SENIOR

Doc; are you alright?

DOC (bewildered).

Marty? Where am I?

Jules and Verne run to the scene.

JULES

Marty! What’s happened.

MARTY SENIOR

It’s your da… It’s Doc. I accidentally hit him with the car. Where have you been?

VERNE

It’s not easy trying to park a flying time-traveling train you know. Is he okay?

Doc groans.

MARTY SENIOR

He needs urgent medical attention.

JULES

Quick, we need to get him to the train.

Jules removes futuristic medical contraptions from his jacket. He proceeds to place objects on Doc to make him comfortable. Jules runs a pen-like device over Doc’s body.

JULES

No spinal damage.

He removes another device from his jacket, which unfolds into a stretcher!

JULES

Being a practitioner of medicine in the 22nd Century comes in handy. Help me roll him onto the stretcher.

Marty Senior and Verne help Jules roll Doc onto the stretcher. Doc groans as he slips in and out of consciousness.

JULES

Go home Marty. Take the DeLorean with you. We’ll take Dad to the future to get him fixed up. We’ll meet up with you later.

MARTY SENIOR

Take care of him.

VERNE

Don’t worry, we will.

Marty Senior, Scott, Suzy and Eric look on as Jules and Verne take Doc off down the street on the stretcher.

Ext. McFly Household Evening. Marty Senior is waving Marlene and Marty Junior as they head off out for the evening.

MARTY SENIOR

Don’t get into any trouble and be home by 10pm.

MARTY JUNIOR

Quit fussing Dad. As if we’d get into any trouble.

MARTY SENIOR

Just steer clear of Griff Tannen. That’s what I mean.

MARLENE

Are you feeling alright Dad? You know Griff Tannen has been locked up in prison. You know… After the incident at the shopping mall last week.

MARTY SENIOR

Yeah, yeah. I know. See you later kids, have a good evening.

MARLENE & MARTY JUNIOR

Bye Dad.

Marty Senior goes inside the house.

Int. Living Room. Marty Senior walks in holding reading a newspaper. The headline reads “Mayor Goldie Wilson III re-elected for another term”.

Jennifer is sitting watching TV.

MARTY SENIOR

There’s no sign of Jules and Verne with Doc yet. I hope nothing’s happened.

JENNIFER

I’m sure everything will be okay. Sit down Marty; you’ve been pacing up and down for ages.

The doorbell sounds.

MARTY SENIOR

That’ll be them.

Marty Senior and Jennifer rush to the door and open it. Jules and Verne are with a much disorientated Doc Brown. Doc is wearing futuristic clothing and silver glasses that wrap around his face (the same clothes as in Back to the Future part II).

JULES

Presenting Doctor Emmett Brown!

MARTY SENIOR

Doc! Are you okay?

DOC

Sir, I am nothing to you but Captain Nemo; and you and your companions are nothing to me but the passengers of the Nautilus.

MARTY SENIOR (to Verne).

What’s he on about?

VERNE

Don’t worry, he’s a little spaced out. He’s not been long out of surgery. He’ll need a rest.

JENNIFER

I’ll take him through to the living room. Come on Doctor Brown, come with me.

DOC

Lead the way my dear.

Jennifer leads Doc through to the sitting room.

MARTY SENIOR (to Jules and Verne).

Are you coming in?

JULES

No, we can’t stop. We shouldn’t have any more contact with Dad. He’s sedated at the moment. In an hour or so, he’ll be right as rain. Make sure he gets back to 1985 okay.

VERNE

Remember he needs to go back to pick you and Jennifer up Marty, on October 26th 1985 outside your parents house.

MARTY SENIOR

To take the younger versions of us to 2015?

VERNE

That’s right Marty.

Verne hands Marty a newspaper.

MARTY SENIOR

What’s this?

Marty looks at the newspaper. It a copy of USA Today Hill Valley Edition. The headline reads "Youth Jailed". The sub-headline reads "Martin McFly Junior Arrested For Theft".

MARTY SENIOR

I though we’d sorted all this out! What’s going on?

VERNE

Don’t worry it’s only a mock up newspaper. You need to give it to Dad to take with him.

JULES

Tell Dad that Marty Junior has been arrested and give him the details of what happened on October 21st. When you both sort out the events of the day, the newspaper will change to read about Griff Tannen and his gang being jailed instead, which is what the actual newspaper reads.

Marty takes this in.

MARTY SENIOR

Right; I’ve got that.

JULES

Well, we can’t hang around I’m afraid. It’s been nice catching up with you Marty. Take care.

MARTY SENIOR

Goodbye Jules. Yes it’s good to catch up.

Marty Senior shakes hands with Jules.

JULES

All the best Marty, hopefully we’ll meet again in the future.

MARTY SENIOR

Or even in the past.

JULES (almost with a chuckle).

I do hope not.

VERNE

Goodbye Marty.

MARTY SENIOR

Goodbye Verne. I’m so sorry about what happened to your dad in 1955.

VERNE

I know Marty. But on the bright side, we still have forty years with him. It’s imperative that you don’t tell him anything about what happens to him.

MARTY SENIOR

Don’t worry, that’s the last thing I’ll tell him. What about you two; does he know who you are?

JULES

He did know, but know we’ve managed to erase it from his memory. He will also have forgotten anything of being knocked down. When he comes to his senses, he’ll believe he went off to the future on his own free will, got the DeLorean hover converted, and went and had rejuvenation surgery and got a whole natural overhaul.

MARTY SENIOR

I remember him telling me! He was wearing a rubber mask in case I didn’t recognize him without wrinkles.

VERNE

That’s right Marty. We got him a whole makeover whilst he was in surgery. We saw to it that he had wrinkles taken out, did a hair repair, changed the blood, and replaced his spleen and colon.

JULES

We added a good thirty to forty years to his life as it stands now.

MARTY SENIOR

But he lives for about another…

Marty Senior tries to work it out.

JULES

Seventy years. He goes for a few more treatments later in life. Anyway, can’t spend all day chatting, Dad will come to his senses soon.

Ext. McFly Household. Jules and Verne walk away from the house.

VERNE

So long Marty. Say goodbye to the kids for us.

Jennifer joins Marty Senior’s side.

MARTY SENIOR

Is that the train?

JULES

Yeah, we didn’t have much time to hide it. Don’t worry Marty. It’ll give the neighbors something to talk about.

Jules winks at Marty Senior and Verne waves. They climb aboard the train. Verne pops his head back out.

VERNE

Oh Marty, before I forget; delete that time travel story off your computer before we have any more unexpected visitors from another time.

MARTY SENIOR

Okay Verne. Will do.

Verne pops back inside the train. Marty Senior puts his arm around Jennifer and they watch the train start up, lift into the air and fly away.

In the distance, three sonic booms can be heard as the train heads back to the future.

JENNIFER

What’s wrong with Doctor Brown Marty? He’s fast asleep.

MARTY SENIOR

Don’t worry Jen, he’ll be fine.

Marty Senior and Jennifer head back inside.

Ext. End of Marty Senior’s parents street. Doc is standing by the DeLorean and Marty Senior is saying goodbye to him.

MARTY SENIOR

So, are you all sorted Doc?

DOC

Don’t worry Marty, I’ll fetch you in 1985 and bring you back and get your son out of prison.

MARTY SENIOR

I’m gonna miss you Doc. Say hi to my 17-year-old self for me.

DOC

I wish I could’ve stopped longer. I’ll pop back and see you someday. It’s strange though, this whole trip to the future seems like a dream to me. I’ve only been here a short while, and it all seems very vague.

MARTY SENIOR

It’s probably some sort of jet-lag Doc.

DOC

Maybe you’re right. Anyway Marty, I wish you all the best for the future.

The two friends hug.

MARTY SENIOR

Scott will be sad he missed saying goodbye.

DOC

Who’s Scott?

MARTY SENIOR (double-tracking).

Scott? I meant Jennifer. I don’t know where that came from.

Confused Doc shakes it off and gets into the DeLorean.

MARTY SENIOR

Goodbye Doc.

Doc waves and shuts the door. Marty stands and watches as Doc flies off one way, and sweeps down back towards him. The DeLorean flashes, three sonic-booms are heard, and Doc disappears back to 1985 to meet young Marty and Jennifer.

MARTY SENIOR (to himself).

So that’s that then…

Marty Senior walks off along the street.

(Friday, October 30th 2015). Int. McFly Household, evening. Suzy is joining The McFly family for dinner. Also present are Scott, Marty Senior, Jennifer, Marlene and Marty Junior. Jennifer opens a cupboard and brings out a cake. She takes it over to the table.

JENNIFER

Scott… Suzy… This is for getting top grades in your local history project at school.

SCOTT

Thanks Mom.

MARLENE

Did Suzy do all the work for you Scott? You’re usually terrible at history.

SCOTT

We’ve both been studying hard, haven’t we Suzy.

Suzy nods her head.

MARLENE

She must be a good influence on you.

SCOTT

Yes. I think she is.

MARLENE

Well, little brother, I know you two have just started going out together, but you both seem good together.

Suzy blushes.

SCOTT

I have a feeling we’ll be together for a long while.

SUZY

I have that feeling too.

MARTY SENIOR

Well I hope the future goes well for you both, whatever it brings.

Scott smiles.

MARTY SENIOR (tucking into some cake).

Ah well; all’s well that ends well. Hmmm, nice cake.

MARTY JUNIOR

What’s that supposed to mean Dad?

MARTY SENIOR

I mean the school project.

Scott and Suzy smile at each other.

SCOTT

What else would he mean?

Scott winks at Suzy.

Marty Junior and Marlene spot the wink and frown curiously.

Suddenly there is the sound of three sonic booms outside and a loud crash.

MARLENE

What was that?

Ext. McFly household. Everyone rushes to the door, led by Scott. A bi-plane has landed in the street and had crashed into a tree in the front garden. One of the wings is mangled. And smoke comes out of the front.

SCOTT

What the…? That’s Doc’s plane.

The McFlys and Suzy watch as the cockpit door opens. Two heads pop out and smoke surrounds them.

The smoke clears. It reveals that it’s another Scott and Suzy.

Marlene lets out a scream.

MARTY SENIOR

What’s going on?

Alternate Scott and alternate Suzy climb out of the bi-plane.

ALTERNATE SCOTT

That was a bad landing. We’ll never get back.

NORMAL SCOTT

Whoa! What are you… me… doing here.

ALTERNATE SCOTT

Well Suzy and I heard about some work Doc Brown was up to on his farm, so we decided to check it out.

NORMAL SCOTT

What did you… we… find?

ALTERNATE SCOTT

The bi-plane; remember it?

NORMAL SCOTT

Yeah, I remember it, but what… when have you come from?

ALTERNATE SCOTT

When? October 30th 2015.

NORMAL SCOTT

But that’s today? How? What?

ALTERNATE SCOTT

No, no, no. Haven’t you been to the farm here?

ALTERNATE SUZY

How peculiar.

NORMAL SCOTT

What the hell is going on here?

ALTERNATE SCOTT

We are you, but we haven’t traveled in time.

NORMAL SCOTT

If you haven’t traveled in time, then where have you come from?

ALTERNATE SCOTT

We’ve traveled here from another dimension!

NORMAL SCOTT

Great Scott!

MARTY SENIOR

This is heavy!

The camera pans back into the sky looking down onto the bi-plane, and the family around it.

“The End...?” is displayed.

Credits Roll.

  1. I loved reading these three stories... I wish Universal would take these and make it an actual movie, it was really good. I've been hoping for BTTF sequels, so this was awesome to get into! If you ever make a part 7, cant wait to read it :) Awesome job!

  2. great job! really good read for all 3. I personally dont think they should make a proper movie as it would cheapen the original trilogy but your scripts were really good.

  5. Great Scott! Your scripts are wonderfully amazing! I enjoyed a lot reading all they three. I personally don't think that Bob Gale and Robert Zemericks will make a sequel in the future because they never wanted and I also don't want it, since the series are old, a chance of a reboot or a remake of the trilogy before the sequel(s) is enormous and this is a thing that I really don't want, it can cheapen the original trilogy. But your scripts are really so good that can be used by them in an official sequel, it's amazing how good your story flows in a consistent way, just the way I like when I myself do this sort of things (fanscripts and fanfictions). I found just a small error, [SPOILER]in Part VI, in 2045, there is no need to the second Scott give the the first Scott the address, since he (the first Scott) was already there before when he was spotted by Verne before he can save his older self,[SPOILER ENDS] the rest flows perfectly. I personally would have changed two things, [SPOILER]I would have used the term Timeline/Another Timeline instead of Dimension/Another Dimension, just to not get away of the time traveling theme of the series in a possible Part VII and also give a more accurate personality for Scott, just like Marty has during his role as the protagonist (a perspective and wish for his professional future and why not a "chicken problem" or something like that, why not? Father like son...).[SPOILER ENDS] Also, they probably will need to be updated after the release of "Doc Brown Saves the World" that happened October 21th of this year (the Back to the Future Day). But still great scripts, it's fascinating all they three and I enjoyed a lot reading each single word of then, the stories are amazing, you have a such great talent and creativity. Congratulations!

  7. Wow, I was crazy after a fanfiction after third movie, and I found it here. I liked the triology very much, but there is something that was in doubt. What happened to the first plutonium-fueled delourean that doc brought to 2015? When Scott is in 2045, Eric arrives with him, and Josh takes it to 1955 and does not return with him. From what I understand, Jules said that Josh returned in the delourean with Mr. merger and not with the old delourean. If that happened, then the old Delourean got stuck in 1955, and how come Eric in 2045, can you go back to 2115 and meet with Scott and Suzan? Ma I loved it. Do you have more fanfiction with Back to the Future?
